Reports of ISPRS Events | | Commercial Satellite Imagery Project to support UNEP's National Environmental Atlases and UN HABITAT's Lake Victoria
Urbanisation Initiative Nov 29 - Dec 1, 2011 Nairobi, Kenya The ISPRS Foundation has provided support for participants to travel to a workshop on the use of Commercial Satellite Imagery to support UNEP's National Environmental Atlases and UN HABITAT's Lake Victoria Urbanisation Initiative. The workshop was held at the Regional centre for Mapping for Resource management (RMCRD) in Nairobi from 29th November to 1st December 2011. The purpose of the workshop was to enable participants to understand the requirements to support development of base urban planning maps for the Lake Victoria region and
to build capacity amongst local planners so that they are able to use GIS and remote sensing to support their work. More importantly the workshop brought together key International, regional, sub-regional, UN, national, academic and local organizations around a table to develop a strategy on how this group could collectively support the Mapping Africa for Africa (MAfA) initiative. | | | ISPRS Workshop on Remote Sensing and GIS Methods for Change Detection and Spatio-temporal Modelling (CDSM 2011) December 14–16, 2011 Hong Kong, China The CDSM2011 international symposium was held at 14-16 December 2011, Hong Kong Baptist University. It was an official academic
event of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and it is jointly organized by ISPRS Working Group VII/5 "Methods for change detection and process modelling", Department of Geography and Centre for Geo-computation Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University, Department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The aim of the symposium was to enhance international collaboration and scholar exchange in the field of remote sensing change detection and spatio-temporal modelling. The focus also extended to the study of geo-process modelling using long-term remotely sensed and geographical data.
It was endeavored to promote and encourage collaborated efforts for the development of new technology for processing multi-temporal imagery, detecting changing environment and objects, and modelling long-term geo-processes. | | | ISPRS WG VI/1, VI/2 Workshop on E-Learning 2011 within ACRS Report October 4-5, 2011 Taipei, Chinese Taipei by Henny Mills, Gerhard König, Peter T. Y. Shih The two-day international symposium on Advances in Geospatial Technologies for Health was held in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA on 12 and 13 September 2011. Co-located with NASA's annual program review for health projects, it was
organized by a committee of eight people who assembled eight sessions on key topics that bridged the Earth observing and health communities of practice. Seventy (70) attendees from eleven countries (Belgium, Canada, Ethiopia, France, India, Italy, Japan, Nicaragua, Switzerland, Thailand, and the US) participated in the event. The Symposium was supported by nine sponsors: NASA, CNES, JAXA, ASPRS, Esri, JRCies, NMGIC, Bohannan-Huston, and EDAC. ISPRS Council was represented by Treasurer Mike Renslow. | | | | | | | Announcements | | 4th International Euro-Mediterranean Conference - EUROMED 2012 Oct 29 - Nov 3, 2012 Limassol, Cyprus The 4th EUROMED conference brings together researchers, policy makers, professionals, fellows and practitioners to explore some of the more pressing issues concerning Cultural Heritage today. In particular, the main goal of the conference is to focus on interdisciplinary and
multi-disciplinary research on tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage, using cutting edge technologies for the protection, restoration, preservation, massive digitalization, documentation and presentation of the Cultural Heritage contents. At the same time, the event is intended to cover topics of research ready for exploitation, demonstrating the acceptability of new sustainable approaches and new technologies by the user community, owners, managers and conservators of our cultural patrimony. | | | A New Electronic Journal "South-Eastern European Journal of Earth Observation and Geomatics" (SEEJoEOG) The nine societal benefit areas (Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate, Disasters, Ecosystems, Energy, Health, Water, Weather), identified by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) member states, clearly shows that Earth Observation is here only to benefit the citizens. This global effort can be traced in International Organizations and Initiatives like GEO (Group on Earth Observations), GEOSS Global Earth Observation System of Systems), CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites), and so on. | | | OBSERVE Activities OBSERVE, BALKANGEONET and EGIDA FP7 projects organized 18-19 November, 2011 the Post GEO Workshop in Istanbul, Turkey. The workshop attracted 88 experts, stakeholders, local policy makers and academics that had the opportunity to get informed on the latest developments regarding International and European Earth Observation developments and participate in vivid debates on the future of EO in the Balkans. |

 | | New Members | | Associate Member: Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation(DHN) The mission of the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation is to manage, operate and investigate environment science-related activities in the aquatic field, to contribute to national development, provide support and safety navigation to naval units and mariners in general and contribute to achieving corporate objectives. | Ordinary Member: Chamber of authorized Architects and Engineers, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(FYROM) Activities of chamber of authorized architects and engineers of FYROM: Chamber of authorized architects and engineers of FYROM is an organization which consists of the following nine departments: - Geodesy
- Geotechnics
- Urbanism
- Architecture
- Living environment
engineering
- Civil engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Electric engineering
- Traffic engineering
The chamber has a power given by the laws to provide engineers with authorization certificates. These certificates are necessary for engineers in order to make designs and perform official engineering tasks within the country and to be accepted by official institutions. Each department of the chamber has it own commission appointed to conduct evaluation of the applicants for an authorization and at the end to make decision to grant or not an authorization certificate. The department of the chamber for Geodesy has extensive cooperation with geodetic engineers working in practice in order to support
implementation of new technologies, promote new laws, influence law regulations in process of creation, providing licenses for certain field of expertise in the field of Geodesy. Providing standards and revision of the created designs and geodetic project is also a part of the work provided by the department. | | | | | | ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing | | New publications in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Volume 66, issue 6 (November 2011) | | | | | | | In Memoriam | | Tuan-Chih Chen 1943 - 2011 Prof. Tuan-Chih Chen passed unexpected end of last year.
