Same here. Did you recently update VirtualBox? This appeared to start happening after I updated to 5.1.24 r117012 (Qt5.5.1), so i'm guessing that may be the issue. I'm thinking we may have to wait for an update to GenyMotion to get back up and running again.

Hi Lenny Zimmermann, thank you for your response.
I started using Ubuntu about 30 days ago due to performance issues with Windows 10 and I'm really enjoying using a fast and fluid computer, but problems like this discourage me.
I mean I've spent hours researching the subject, but I can not find an answer.
We can not but hope and hope for a solution.

Hello Lenny Zimmermann, I say with great happiness to you and to all the others who suffer from this problem:
I managed to solve the problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!

After much searching and almost giving up, I had the simple idea of uninstalling VirtualBox via the command line ('sudo apt-get remove virtualbox' and 'sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-guest-utils') and reinstall the virtualbox with the' Sudo apt-get install virtualbox '.

Voilà, Genymotion started working normally.
I also noticed that the virtualbox was installed with a different icon.

Interesting. I'll give that a try when I get a chance and let folks here know if that works for me as well. Thanks for sharing!

After testing that metho will work, but it works only because it replaces Virtualbox 5.1 with VirtualBox 5.0. Unfortunately because of another VM I have on this machine I need some of the functionality in 5.1. So presumably the answer would be for me to find VirtualBox 5.1.23 to revert back to since Genymotion appears to only be broken with 5.1.24. I'm still hoping Genymotion will release a fix, but their website does list specific versions of VirtualBox they work:

For Genymotion to run properly, make sure you have the right version of VirtualBox installed:

Mac OS X: 5.0.26 (a sound issue prevents version 5.0.28 to run properly)
Windows: 5.0.28
Linux: 5.0.28
In any case, do not use versions 5.1.x, as they are known to cause sound issues and in some cases prevent Genymotion to start.

I don't normally h ave the sound on so 5.1 has always been fine for me. Oh well.

Just got the latest VirtualBox update to 5.1.26 r117224 (Qt5.5.1) and that appears to have fixed the problem!
