Dear riders of the realm,

As the first hints of our “proper spring” settle over Minnesota and Wisconsin, it’s starting to feel as though our longawaited ramble is truly within reach. With only three weeks to go, our fine riders may find themselves dusting off their steeds, oiling a sticky bearing or two, and perhaps even venturing out for those first tentative miles. And if you haven’t yet begun your own annual training regimen, take heart – there’s still plenty of time to plan a leisurely ride to the nearest pub, park, or bakery. After all, the more realistic the training, the better prepared you’ll be for the real toil of riding with a full stomach.

Other ratchets and pawls:

·    We have a crew of 67 nutters signed up for the tour, putting us well on track for a hearty group.

·    A note of good news: new pavement has been laid on the path from Maiden Rock to Stockholm, making for a wonderfully smooth ride. The accompanying note of bad news: it appears that the Lake Pepin Geological marker just north of Reads Landing is closed for construction; I propose we move our traditional stop to one of the several other scenic overlooks on that stretch.

·   The tourbooks and other materials have all been assembled.

·   Jon Hanson has generously volunteered to serve as our chaplain, allowing us to continue our cherished tradition of the Blessing of the Bicycles; the ride simply wouldn’t be the same without it. Ralph has also written a new hymn for us to sing as part of this year’s blessing.

Best along the path,
