Every year I look forward to the ABCE festivities and was really excited about this year and seeing you all there.  On Friday the 23rd I was travelling home on my trusty Royal Scot and was struck by a car.  I ended up breaking my arm and will be having surgery this Thursday.   It saddens me to say that I won't be able to ride with you this year.
I am committed to healing well so that I can see everyone at Lake Pepin next May. I wish you all the best weather and a wonderful ABCE tour !       -Russell .

Russell,
I’m glad you weren’t hurt worse than you were. If there is a way for you to make it happen, the afternoon festivities that involve the eating of pizza, drinking of beer, and telling of  tales, true, and otherwise, would be enriched and improved with your participation.

Let me be the first to encourage you to consider it. I’ll miss you greatly if you can’t swing it.

Thank you Ted.  I dare say that I have been considering that very idea. I have never been through an injury like this and am not sure what 10 days post op really looks like. If possible I will attend.
Thank you for your kind words

Russell:

Firstly, Oh no! (Need to get that out of the way).

Secondly, the ride is as much about fellowship as it is the ride. Hope you can show up and have some food and banter with the group, assuming you've found an appropriate pair of slip on shoes. (I've learned to tie shoes with one hand before, but it may take more than 10 days to master).

I've made the "mistake" of agreeing to backup my son through the 13th on the Superior Hiking Trail (he's hiking, I'm not) and hope to be around on Sunday the 14th... Maybe there is such a thing as too much fun.

Hope you're intact and healing.

Good to see you posting, Bob. Your much modified Raleigh 20 should be in attendance, under the posterior of Cindy,  the daughter component of the Chinese pair of neighbor ladies I coerce into attending the ABCE.

Coerce might be too strong a word. Peer pressure, perhaps. Anyway, that is the game plan.

Russell,
Sorry to hear about your accident, but bones heal. My inner gearhead wants to know, how did your beloved Royal Scot come through the ordeal?

My Royal Scot, that I purchased at a previous ABCE , suffered a mangled rear wheel and snapped indicator chain as well as rear fender damage. I'm not able to tell if the rear triangle is bent in my current state.
I was taking stock of my damage and bike damage while emergency services arrived. I'm hoping that British steel will prevail.   -Russell

Russell:

Let me know if there are any tasks that might help get you through a day. Being one handed for a while can bite into your ability to do everyday necessary stuff. I've been there. I'm on the other side of the river and just retired.

Russell,
I have a method of straightening or widening rear triangles that produces an accurate result. Let me know if you need this done.
