Threaded driver makes that an "Original" Bendix.
brake shoe part number is BB-22

BB-22 fits
Original (threaded driver)
Red Band (spline driver)
Red Band 2 (3 notch driver)
70

Other hubs and brake part number
Red Band Junior BB-222
70 Junior BB-222
76 short/long BB-722

2 speed
manual MS-22
red band automatic disc set AB-22
blue band automatic (over drive) AB-322
yellow band automatic AB-322

The hubs with BB-22 would be the most sold versions so there are plenty of hubs around for parts.

Thanks very much for the info, Rick!

I recall a discussion some time back about changes in Raleigh’s hub bearing cups and cones from fully hardened steel to case hardened, This hub is 60+ to 80 years old and from the looks of it has been well used before it got to me, yet the bearing surfaces are beautiful. This hub won the gravity race a couple of years. Braking distance has become a little long and there’s a lot of pedal travel to engage the brake, so I figure I should have some new shoes on hand before tearing it down, I figure bronze shoes will have a higher coefficient of friction being sifter than steel. I’m hoping to find just a set of shoes (there are some on eBay) rather than a sacrificial hub. Sutherland’s says to replace the retarder spring when rebuilding the hub, but those are rara avis these days.

Definition: “Rara Avis”. Turkey.

Have you ever used a Perry coaster brake hub, Tim? I grew up with Bendix coasters, but, grew into a Perry, quite comfortably, later on.
