to Gentleman Cyclist
Greetings: I own a 1950 Raleigh Clubman that I purchased back in 2005. At that time, I took it to Harris Cyclery for Sheldon Brown to confirm that it was a Clubman, since it is not the original “Electric Blue” color. He confirmed that it is a Clubman, which was painted red sometime during the 1970s.

I have kept the red color and have chosen not to restore to blue since there are Reynolds 531 stickers and a Taunton, Mass bike shop sticker (now defunct) on the seat tube. The down-tube pump braze-ons are intact.

The Clubman has the original Dunlop rims (Sheldon told me not to ride with those since they are extremely rare). Took it on one short ride, and since I’m sized to a 23”, have not ridden it since.

Came with a Brooks B-17 brown saddle (original would have been a B-17N). Did not come with original brake calipers, but I have restored with appropriate 1950s GB Hiduminium Sport brakes (and Kool Stop pads).

Has white Bluemels mudguards, not original to the bike, but similar. Cranks and pedals are original. Sturmey-Archer “AW” 3 speed hub. Handlebars and stem are original, and I have removed the tape and replaced with Velo Orange bar end rubber grips. Aftermarket handlebar-mounted water bottle cage included. British Grip-fast wing nuts (not original specification) on the front wheel.

I’d recommend a brake caliper and shifter adjustment. Otherwise, will ride beautifully. Price is $600 firm.

I also have two other bicycles:
1966 Raleigh DL-1 with a new Brooks (black) B-72 saddle. Works perfectly, and does not like to stop quickly in the rain with those steel rims. Missing the chain guard. $500 firm.

1993 Swiss Militarvelo. Not British, but very unique. Manufactured by Condor. Hydraulic brakes. Complete with attaché case and cargo straps. Purchased in 2003 from the owner and shipped from Switzerland. A whopping 48 pounds, guaranteed to get you in shape on the gentlest of hills. $2,000 firm.

Also adding a rarely-used Carradice Duxbak wax-cotton poncho (and poncho bag) for $100 firm.

Email for pics. Ask any questions.

Buyer pays shipping if desired. Located in Michigan’s U.P. Just relocated a few months ago, and busy with house projects, so am hoping to do the rides next year.

Thanks for reading this far.
