Yes, it's been awhile. Life has been happening, and alas, I got caught-up in it.

Miscellaneous updates: Jon's old `49 Clubman still serves me well as my favorite 3-speed, and I might make the `Tour this year. I'm pondering a full restoration on my 1984 Dawes Ranger ATB, perhaps in time for the next ABCE. I also have a rare 1980s 650b touring bike that I might build up for that same event.

But of interest to many of you might be the availability of the old BBC mini-series "Piece of Cake" on YouTube. I've read all of Derek Robinson's books, dark/dry British humor about fighter pilots in the two world wars. Highly recommended! "Piece of Cake", on which this series is based, is about Hornet Squadron flying Spitfires leading up to and into The Battle of Britain.

The best way I know to describe it is a sort of English "Black Sheep Squadron". Give it a go!

So where and when is the monthly meet-up these days?

Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary,
Good to hear from you and it sounds like you are doing well.
I'm going to look up "Piece of Cake" because, well, I like cake and I like old BBC documentaries.
We are meeting at Waldmann Brewery these days; on the first Wednesday of the month. It's not English, but 1850's Germany will do for now. 5:30 or so.
Jon

And who do "Piece of Cake" and "Midsommer Murders" have in common? Neil Dudgeon ...

I think his appearance in "Piece of Cake" as a (somewhat arrogant) Second World War Spitfire fighter pilot was the first time I remember seeing him?

You probably like Spitfires as well; I understand the airframe was built with Reynolds 531 tubing. And that Rolls Royce Merlin sound!

Oh, and there are several DL1s being ridden and hanging about the airstrip(s) as well. Definitely worth a watch, of an evening, during these dwindling days before riding season.

Stay warm!
