Dear riders of the realm,
With the snow melting away and temperatures reaching the mid‑seventies in Minnesota and Wisconsin, it’s tempting to believe that Spring - and by extension, Pepin - is just around the bend. Around the Midwest, these early warm spells have earned a name: Fool’s Spring, that beguiling interlude when the sun smiles sweetly just before winter comes back for another bout. And this reputation is well earned, as only last weekend towns along Lake Pepin found themselves digging out from nearly twenty inches of fresh snow. But really, what are we to do in a time like this - sit in our overstuffed armchairs and wait for “proper” spring to arrive? I, for one, can be proudly numbered among the fools – I’ll take to the trails every chance I get!
Other nuts and bolts:
· As of today, there are an even 50 riders on the roster, a fine showing for this early in the season.
· For early arrivals, we will be hosting a pre-ride get-together at the Red Wing Brewery on the Friday evening before the ride. Likewise, on Sunday afternoon we can reconvene there for post-ride libations.
· As many of you have probably seen, the Humble Moon Saloon in Stockholm will be closed during the Saturday portion of our tour; however, there are several other establishments in town quite suitable for a lunch break.
· The Anderson House in Wabasha is planning to host us for a Sunday morning breakfast buffet, $13 a head.
· The parking situation at Colvill Park and camping at Malone Park are arranged just as they’ve been in years past.
Best along the path,
