Thanks for the invite Dave. We will be in Alaska on an airstream caravan from 1 July thru the end of September

Sure do: 2 new knees, 2 bouts of positional vertigo, high toilets, rollers/walkers, hearing aids, fixed income, the best........😀

If all goes to plan, I'll be retired and have will have finished this winter project, a 1984 Gitane Gran Tour.

Vitus 181 butted tubes
Stronglight 99bis 50/40/30 crank
Huret Duopar titanium rear derailleur
Mafac canti brakes
Normandy Comp high flange hubs
My old Ideale saddle from the shop where I worked 45 years ago.

This type of bike has been a dream bike I've wanted for years. I'd like to ride along with you, if it can come together.

Looking forward to the '84 Gitane. The included 2024 Ride newsletter may give you an idea of what to expect tho' each years ride may offer up something new.

Thanks Ian!

About 1979, I bought a Ross Gran Tour and had dreams of bike touring. Then I got married, had kids and, and yada yada yada. Never went camping.

I've waited decades to get out packed up with a tent. The other twist is that I have a son who's gotten into backpacking and I've built him a touring bike and we've got some other adventures in the works.

I'm looking forward to a fun summer!

Jon

Ian,
Another thing they don’t tell you about getting old; I’m supposed to carry 5 cards in my wallet, fake hip, fake knee, 2 types of cardiac stents and as of last week, a pacemaker. If I had any money, there wouldn't be any room for it in my wallet.

Lookin’ a little buzzed from the anesthetic, but our camera club’s challenge for Feb. is “selfies”. Must have worked, I did a 12 mile ride, 6 days later.

Everything I wanted to know but was afraid to ask!

After reading Ian's trip report last year I did the trail alone, camping, driving, doubling back to my vehicle. I included the Harmony Preston trail as well. That hill to Fountain was the worst for me.
