Because we don’t have an official “Morale Officer”, I snapped a quick photo of the bike Chris and I have used on a couple ‘Tours”, not recently, however. Thanks, Barry. It got new Panaracer 27” tires, a newer back rim and new spokes, general service and lube. The rear hub on this bike is a 1940 vintage AW, likely off an old Schwinn, as it has 36 holes.
Do get busy prepping those old bikes!

Another one. The old Shimano UB-72 held in Phil Wood rings trick. Progress. Not complete yet.

Ahoy!
What are the two, smooth face, Phil "donuts"?
I've never see those before? Finishers/plugs available from Phil?
Regards,

I agree the bike is looking good, the Phil bits are great. But the thing I'm drooling over is the pedestal mounted vise. Well done!

Looks great! What size spokes are those?... wait, I should know that... wait, I guess I don't. Ok I'll shut up now.

One day, years ago, a buddy and I didn’t have anything to do. So, we raided the dumpster at Jorgensen steel (sadly, under lock and key, these days) and pulled that piece of hydraulic tubing, along with a few others. It is 4140, seamless, drawn over mandrill, 1/4” wall tube, that was polished internally and externally, for a two stage hydraulic ram of some sort. We welded flanges on it, filled it with spent lead shot and motor oil, and bolted it to the floor, and drilled and tapped the upper flange to fit the vise. It does not swivel, but, you can walk completely around it, so, no big deal.
The lead shot and motor oil make it dead blow.
If you don’t have a well mounted, and good quality vise in your shop, you don’t really have a shop.
I have three vises. A few vices, as well, but, that is for another time.
Jon I can’t remember what size they were, either. Once the wheels are true, I forget all about them.

So the good news is that there was an extra set of spokes laying around after the beer drinking, talking and measuring. I was going to order spokes for this experiment and thought I better measure the stack on my desk and wouldn't ya know. Just trued it up a few hours ago. If it'll shift, the 3x2 should be on the Pepin ride.

We have to schedule our emergency meetings with an eye toward measuring first, and beer drinking, second.

I’m pretty sure that is where it went sideways….
