Wellafter 12 months picked up my 6200 and returned the 6100 due to its inherent mount design flaw. Paid $25 difference (via agreement with TomTom) after 14 months owning the previous model. I am quite surprised the old models were so laggy yet Phone OS's are ultra smooth and responsive. It's not really acceptable to have a laggy / clunky OS on a $400 plus device these days.

And I've completely given up on TomTom, my tomtom 5200 less than 1-month-old is unable to pick up my voice when using the voice control function (with default phrase and custom phrases). It will work for about an hour after reset and then completely stop working.

This guy says that Go 520 traffic only works in the region the device was purchased in .. Hopefully that's not right. I have a incident open with TomTom and I'll see what they say .. their site doesn't say one way or another so will see whether support gives a firm answer.

I ask because TomTom don't sell the Go 620 here, but it maps+traffic+cameras are all worldwide+lifetime then it could be purchased from overseas and have the same functionality as a locally purchased Go 520. Assuming one can be found cheap, and local warranty support isn't a problem..

My TomTom Go730 is effectively 'dead'. :( I've been searching the web for the past week for possible replacements and not really liking what I've found with regard to many, many bugs in software that the current crop of GPS's depend on.

I upload around 4,000 Custom POI's to my Go730 each week. These are not public POI's but rather are generated on my laptop by a geocaching program called "GSAK". Uploading them to my GO730 is done by connecting the GO730 to my laptop via USB. I understand from my research that all updates are now done via WiFi.

Can anyone tell me if files like Custom POI's can be uploaded wirelessly? If not from my laptop via my home router then perhaps via Dropbox?

If that isn't an option, would removing the memory card and placing it in a card reader and downloading my Custom POI's to that be possible?

I'm leaning towards the TomTom GO 520 at present. It's a bit more than I want to pay, but research would seem to indicate that the cheaper models are likely to bring with them a host of problems and I'm keen to avoid that.

I've found a marked difference between the current touchscreens and the one in my TomTom when I've been trying them out in the shops. The difference is very pleasing. :)

I didn't buy a new TomTom last week. I decided to give the Garmin that I have on loan a good try over several hundred kilometres. It has a couple of nice features but some really annoying ones too, like saying "recalculating" several times within a minute. Overall though, the fact that Garmin use HERE maps is a deal breaker for me. I've read of too many errors in them. The Sensis maps used by TomTom aren't perfect, but they seem to contain fewer errors, at least in my part of the world.

TomTom GO520 is currently on sale at JB-HiFi for $287.00. I picked up one yesterday and have no trouble setting it up by pairing it to my phone, (BlueTooth) and linking it to my home router (WiFi). Updating via WiFi is really quite cool.

The lack of itinerary planning is a small pita, but I'm exploring some workarounds like "Tyre".

I'm very happy with it thus far. I've only driven locally though, but if everything goes according to plan, I'll be undertaking a road trip later this week.

I like the fact that when running of my car's power, the unit starts and stops in response to me starting or stopping the engine. It goes to sleep, rather than turns off completely by default. It wakes up and obtains a satellite lock in a matter of seconds, typically before I've left my driveway.

The wireless updating is sensational! Last night as I prepared to leave for a pizza run, I noticed a new (to me) symbol. The unit was advising me that an update to speed camera locations was available. I downloaded it without having to take the unit into my house and connect to my laptop. That was nice. :)

Loading my own custom POI's wirelessly has proved to be almost effortless. :)

The magnetic mount is damn strong. I have to use two hands to remove it, one hand to hold the mount and the second to detach the GPS otherwise, the mount moves way out of alignment and I have to readjust the unit when I clip it back in.

Does the Mydrive navigation app for the phone do this ? just read it on the website for route planning

That appears to be a dud. Enter you start and finish waypoints and it calculates one or more routes. That's all I can get out of it when using it either on my iPhone or the TomTom website.

I've tried using "Tyre" to create a route or itinerary as TomTom call it, but as soon as I uploaded the waypoints to the unit, it reordered them according to my preferences which is always "shortest time". That's not what I'm looking for in itinerary planning.

I successfully used "Garmin Basecamp" to create a "Route" which I then uploaded to the Garmin 1450 that I had the loan of, and that unit respected the order that I had placed the waypoints in.

Given the small number of occasions when I'll be wanting to do this, it's not a big deal for me. I'll use Basecamp to create a route, then print it out. I'll then manually select the waypoints, in the order in which they appear on my printout and navigate to them using my TomTom.

with the new version you can now do multi point routes on MyDrive app, re order stops on the apps, then, transfer to GPS the whole multi point route, if need be, can re arrange order of stops on GPS itself.

My app is up to date but one of the problems is that the app doesn't show My Places which are the waypoints that I want to create a route between.

I haven't worked out how to re-order stops on the GPS. Can you elaborate please?

If it's not on their site (and/or productsafety website) then the rumour is not true. I think you mean that they're no-longer sold, and they may have asked for any retailers with stock to return them.

OK that seems like it. -to-switch-off-2g-network-next-year/ . From Sep 2017 my G0 6100 will not get live traffic. I'll have to do some research this arvo and see if I can tap into my phone for the data. I'm sure it's there, just gotta search.

I spoke with TT support yesterday, they confirmed models with inbuilt SIM use 2G Vodafone and they are not sure themselves if they can support those models with inbuilt SIM once Vodafone shut their 2G network down.

They recommend the cheaper GO 520/620 and not buy the GO6200 currently for sale. I noticed my local Good Guy is still selling them (blindly I assume) It's probably time I upgraded my GO910 with 20GB HDD! It's been a good unit.
