Plenty of software was originally designed for 32 bit and has had 64 bit support added as an afterthought. The first version of Spry was not only built with 64 bit support, but for 64 bit. This means that Spry is designed to handle the massive data requirements of modern mining.

Digitization of the mining planning process is a task that requires a modern tool that allows you to model production processes in detail, as well as ensure that the plan is changed quickly. Modern computers are capable of processing and visualizing huge amounts of information, so the specialist needs to choose and install a planning system that meets the requirements of the enterprise.

Since 1908, Australian Mining has informed the industry on the latest news and technologies from across the mining sector. Comprising of a monthly print magazine, website and e-newsletter, Australian Mining is a leading resource showcasing the latest in mining innovation.

Alastri was founded in 2012 by Perth-based mining engineers Daniel Narayan and Max Bygraves, who wanted to build open pit mine planning software that was fast, visually stunning, user friendly, and capable of modelling complex open pit mines.

The company has grown rapidly from its head office in Perth, Western Australia, building a strong position in the open pit metals mining industry with software products that cover daily scheduling through to life of mine planning.

MICROMINE is a global leader in its segment with a presence in all major mining hubs, including the US, UK, Canada, Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, South Africa, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Mexico, and the Ukraine.

Have worked with a few guys that did mining engineering or geology and elected to stay underground on crew. All regretted that decision when the skills shortage started to bite and those that followed the traditional pathway were on the big $$. It does vary a bit, but most TSMs, supers and principals were all on the 250-300k package range. 20 years ago the GM at the site I was at was on a 350k package. That was very good money at the time. The most recent site I worked at, that figure was 500-600k package.

I do remember a short period of briefly entertaining the idea of staying on crew, principally because at the time they got paid more (an underground truckie was getting more than the senior mining engineer) and had no responsibility. However that has now swung the other way. Just depends what you place more importance on? Earning potential with greater responsibility or less responsibility?

Wouldn't recommend staying on the jumbo long term. Not good for the body. Money is good, but like others have said you can make big money working as a mining engineer, whether it be down the production/management track or the technical track. The numbers being thrown around above for GM levels are right. A smart sole trader can make the same sort of coin.

The advantages of drones include their low cost, lightweight design, accurate data collection ability and pilot remotely. Today, drones have become common tools of the trade in various industries including agriculture, construction and mining.
