Some OS distributions (in particular, Debian-based distributions) provide their own Zabbix packages. Note that these packages are not supported by Zabbix. Third-party Zabbix packages can be out of date and may lack the latest features and bug fixes. It is recommended to use only the official packages from repo.zabbix.com. If you have previously used unofficial Zabbix packages, see notes about upgrading the Zabbix packages from OS repositories.

Zabbix is a server/client network monitoring system with many features. It can be used for: - high level monitoring of IT services; - centralized monitoring of your servers and applications; - monitoring of SNMP-enabled devices; - performance monitoring (process load, network activity, disk activity, memory usage, OS parameters etc.); - data visualization. This package provides the software needed to monitor a host using aZabbix agent. AlarmOne requires a auth token to connect and run APIs against the application/database. So to get around this, we want to install the Zabbix agent on each UCS node, instead of the AlarmOne Poller directly on the UCS Nagios application node.

As far as 3rd Party tools, we try to stick with packages that are supported by UCS, only 1 tool is no directly supports and that is our OBM Cloud Backup software, but the vendor is working with us to support this OS in their application. As such provides fixes if there are issues with it OS and the application.

If you have a supported OS, internet access, and a searchable DNS alias for "zabbix" that will resolve to your zabbix server this cookbook will work with no additional changes. Just include recipe[zabbix-agent] in your run_list.

If you do not set any attributes you will get an install of zabbix agent version 3.0.29 with
what should be a working configuration if your DNS has aliases for zabbix.yourdomain.com and
your hosts search yourdomain.com.

If you do not specify source_url attributes for agent it will be set to download the specified branch and version from the official Zabbix source repository. If you want to upgrade later, you need to either nil out the source_url attributes or set them to the URL you wish to download from.

But I have no idea how to install the agent on Debian based systems like Proxmox or others.
Could explain please how to find the right package source or installation process?
Thanks a lot, Marko

It recommends that I disable the repo, so I'm not sure what mistake I made but for some reason it doesn't seem that the repo is valid based on how I configured it.Does anyone know how I can get the zabbix repo to work in Puppet so that I can install the zabbix agent?

Hello All,I run a Zabbix server within one of my local to me LANs and I run my 3CX server in the cloud. I was hoping to gain more insight into my 3CX server by connecting it up to my Zabbix server. Unfortunately I can't get the 3CX zabbix-agent to...

After that, all we have to do is just add an agent in Zabbix and point it to the OPT1 interface of the pfSense machine. So in the Zabbix UI go to Configuration -> Hosts -> Create Host and add the settings:

I covered a similar setup in Monitor SMART Attributes with Zabbix and Monitor Disk IO Stats with Zabbix so I am not going to go into great detail on the setup. I basically added the following UserParameters to the pfSense Zabbix agent (Services -> Zabbix Agents LTS -> Show Advanced Options):

I had similar issue on freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04.2 desktop 64bit, the difference is that libc6 ...9.3 was installed but my packages (g++ build-essential etc) could not be installed beceause libc6-dev could not be installed because it required libc6 ...9.2 which was older then the one installed

I confirm this. The issue is in the init scripts for the agent, for the server and for the proxy. The issue has been fixed in the 2.0.3 version of the package (I did a comparison of the init scripts between 2.0.2 and 2.0.3).
Apparently there's a wrong evaluation in the _ev_ function on lines 28-30 which throws an exit status of 1 despite the daemon being started properly. Dpkg gets the exit status of 1 and thinks some issue occurred during installation, leaving the package in an inconsistent state.
Here, this is the NON-working version from zabbix 2.0.2:

Where some-zabbix-agent is the name you want to assign to your container, some-hostname is the hostname, it is Hostname parameter in Zabbix agent configuration file, some-zabbix-server is IP or DNS name of Zabbix server or proxy and tag is the tag specifying the version you want. See the list above for relevant tags, or look at the full list of tags.

Note that the path for the TLS PSK File mounts into /var/lib/zabbix/enc. To point to our PSK file we have to set the variable to ZBX_TLSPSKFILE=./agent_tls.psk and NOT ZBX_TLSPSKFILE=/var/lib/zabbix/enc/agent_tls.psk!

Zabbix Agent2 is a drop-in replacement for an old Zabbix agent. Then new agent provides very wide functionality and possibilities to develop plugins for extended monitoring. Agent2 is written in Go language and supports custom plugins that you can write as per your needs and tasks.

After installing yum repository packages in our system. Use the following command to install the Zabbix agent on your CentOS 8 or RHEL 8 systems using the package management tool. Note that the configuration file is the following - the rest of the configuration is identical to Debian:

Different monitored systems/devices and checks can return non-ASCII characters in the value. For such cases, almost all possible zabbix keys contain an additional item key parameter - . This key parameter is optional but it should be specified if the returned value is not in the UTF8 encoding and it contains non-ASCII characters. Otherwise the result can be unexpected and unpredictable.

If a value contains a non-ASCII character in non UTF8 encoding - this character and the following will be discarded when the database stores this value. No warning messages will be written to the zabbix_server.log.
Relevant for at least MySQL version 5.1.61

If a value contains a non-ASCII character in non UTF8 encoding - this will lead to a failed SQL query (PGRES_FATAL_ERROR:ERROR invalid byte sequence for encoding) and data will not be stored. An appropriate warning message will be written to the zabbix_server.log.
Relevant for at least PostgreSQL version 9.1.3
