Hot on the heels of our summer molecular biology crashcourse,
Dr.Oliver Medvedik is ready to offer the summer synthetic biology
crashcourse for the inner mad scientist in all of you.

Well you're in luck! Genspace NYC is about to begin our summer run of

Intro to Synthetic Biology Course
==========================

Saturdays, July 16th, 23rd and 30th; $300 for three 4-hour sessions.
Two (2) spots will be reserved for students, priced at $150. First
come, first served!

Synthetic biology is the science of engineering living organisms as if
they were biological machines. Taught by Dr. Oliver Medvedik from
Harvard University, you’ll learn how to manipulate life using
standardized genetic parts. These genetic sequences serve as building
blocks in the fabrication of genetic “circuits,” previously unseen in
nature. Among many applications, this rapidly maturing technology is
currently being harnessed to cheaply create life saving drugs and bio-
fuels to reduce dependence on petroleum based fuel sources.

As part of this very hands-on-course, we'll create micro-organisms
that smell like bananas, produce colored pigments or emit light in
response to stimuli like skin-burning doses of ultraviolet radiation!
