Saturday August 23rd's Genshiken/Anime Club Meeting

Hello Friends of Gold Star and Anime Fans Everywhere!
I enjoy hearing from past, present (and hopefully FUTURE) Genshiken Club members, and if you have something to share with the rest of the Anime world – please email your thoughts/ideas to me, and if not too inappropriate, I will include them in a future missive!
Recently the list of people receiving this newsletter has been growing, and I am quite happy to say we have over 100 really cool people signed up at Gold Star Anime now, plus everyone who happens to belong to Genshiken Erie, or read this on our MySpace Blog!
If you know anyone else whom you think would appreciate a wacky letter approximately 1.3 times a week, then just ask them to contact me via email – or better yet – stop into the store on a club day and leave your contact info in person!
Since I started this letter – I attended a meeting of the Edinboro Business Association at 6pm, and while I was there I was asked to see if any of YOU club members were interested in helping make Edinboro Homecoming weekend a success?! First I was asked if any of you could/wished to do face paintings during the fair? Then I was asked to ask the members if they would be willing to wear some of their costumes during the event – even just to walk around and be seen that day – in order to help attract the attention of people passing through Edinboro that day? No rush – we are talking about Saturday October 4th! Other events were mentioned in which I was told our club members would be welcome to take part in as well, but those are still a bit tenuous and in the planning stages
at best, so will wait and see if they are going to actually happen before asking anyone to take part.
I do know that we (Gold Star Anime) will be needing a few helpers ourselves during Edinboro’s Homecoming. I plan to take part in events/activities in at least 4 locations at once that day, so unless I can get my cloning device working again before then, I will be needing some extra hands! We plan to set up a table advertising Gold Star Anime on the Campus itself during the Homecoming Parade and following Football game, plus set up tables on the sidewalk outside our store, have the store open (Maybe even be showing videos still for anyone who just comes that day for club, and we will be sponsoring several simple carnival booths at Nature’s Outlet Park.
Non profits and local High School groups are being invited to set up simple carnival booths to raise money and increase traffic through the town itself after the Parade takes place on the Edinboro Campus this year. We will be supplying prizes/money for prizes to some of the groups, and the club is welcome to set up a booth of their own (i.e. the face-painting, or other activity?) there also. Any club member wishing to sell Anime Art is welcome to do so free of charge either in front of our store, on the campus at the table there, or possibly at the carnival! Just let me know if you are interested in taking part, and I will let the Business Association know how many are taking part. Incidentally, Edinboro’s Mayor was one of those who agreed with asking our Anime club to take part! The College is also providing opportunities for shared advertising with the local businesses, so all new Freshmen should be getting info about Gold Star anime along with info about other Edinboro businesses in their new student ‘Welcome’ packets.
Not a lot of people at last Saturdays Meeting, but still a decent turnout! I am expecting attendance to go way up once school and college get going again, since our best attendance ever were during the last 5 or 6 weekends before summer vacation started! Lots of new faces have been showing up recently also, and even Caitlin decided to rejoin us this week! Wow – shock – heart attack! J any-est ways, Haley, our resident star of the Genshiken scene, is supposed to be back next Saturday, and that always seems to bring more members in out of the woodwork! I am thinking that although the club doesn’t have officers – Haley is sort of the acting Club President, and Elizabeth would be her V.P! I always figure that Club meetings are going to be extra fun whenever those two can both be here! Again I am sorry to say that there is no ‘Theme’ yet for next Saturday’s meeting, but if that changes I will be certain to let everyone know!
5% discounts for Edinboro University Anime Club members! Gold Star Anime will now also offer Edinboro University Anime Club Members a 5% discount! Since I am an Edinboro Alumni myself, and I would like to have a closer relationship with ALL our local Anime fans, I have decided to offer this discount. I (May) eventually extend discounts to include all local college and High School Anime Clubs, but not yet, first I need to see how it works right here in Edinboro! I would like to work with the University's Club to plan some local Edinboro Anime Events or combined club activities also!
I would also still like to do what I can to help the Anime Club members at Daemen College in Buffalo hold Neo NohCon there again in 2009! Also, I will try to send more than just a few shirts to the Anime Club at Tusculum College in Greeneville Tennessee this year! Tusculum is where I received my Bachelor's Degree in 1981 - Go Pioneers! Edinboro is where I received my Masters Degree in 1989, and my Secondary Teaching Certificates in 1992 - Go Scots!
Once again as a plug for our new neighbor, the “Campus Dog” (Greek Hotdog shop) next door - they also offer a 5% discount to all Edinboro Students (and to Gold Star Anime Club members!) I still haven’t gotten around to asking any other businesses if they will extend discounts to our club members too, but I still plan to!
Well, time to end this lengthy diatribe! I need to get some things done and get home to sleep! I would appreciate getting emails from any of you who have comments or suggestions about anything I just mentioned? (or forgot to mention?) Have a great week everyone! In addition, we are expecting the following new/replacement items from AAA-Anime this week. All of these things are not available through Diamond, our regular distributor, so we expect that the majority of these things will not show up in our order from AAA either! We have to keep trying though, in order to maintain as many complete Manga sets as possible! Publishers are producing far fewer copies of nearly every Manga, and dropping many titles entirely! We strive do be one of those places where you are likely to find the rarest volumes, even paying the full retail price or higher on occasion on ebay or at places like borders – just so that we can obtain the missing volumes from some popular sets! A few times we have even contacted customers whom we knew had purchased a particular volume, and offered to buy the book back! For this reason, we are now making certain volumes ONLY available for purchase with the purchase of the complete set of the series! Complete sets of books seem to sell better, plus we usually charge a little more than the total cover prices – since putting these sets together, and KEEPING the whole set in stock is really difficult! We go to great lengths to try and satisfy ALL our customers, both online and in person! Every week we end up calling stores all over the NW PA & NE Ohio area looking for particular books that we thought we had! Sometimes it is because books were stolen, but more often it is simply that a book was sold, then re-ordered, but the reordered book ended up never arriving - because the Distributor didn’t have it either – but had it listed as being in stock anyway!. Other, less rare volumes are still sold at their cover prices (less the club discount if you have qualified)

Hi !!
sorry it's been so long since you heard from me but I've been busy I just recieved a new job moving up in the world oh yeah ! I am now a cook yes you read that right a cook at the casino restaraunt the
Club House I have therefore been extremely busy and tuckered out I'm gonna try to go to anime club next saturday if I get the day off. I am so missing everyone please give them a big hug from me take
care gotta work in the morning my schedule is 8 am til 4 pm so it's harder still to get out there ;(
