In order to accelerate our software development efforts and ensure the long term sustainability of GenoCAD, we would like to add a few developers to the GenoCAD project. This can be a great opportunity for software engineers interested in getting hands-on experience in synthetic biology. It can also be a good opportunity for someone with a bioinformatics background who is looking for experience working on a large project.  The ideal candidates would have:

  • Proficiency with PHP (preferably within a Zend framework) and JavaScript;
  • Experience with relational databases (preferably MySQL);
  • Ability to code according to defined standards;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Communication skills necessary to collaborate with other team members;
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and/or synthetic biology;
  • Past experience contributing to open-source applications.

Developers selected to work on the project will be assigned tasks involving the development or improvement of specific features. We have a roadmap of features that need to be implemented, but we’d welcome suggestions of new features that we may not have considered yet. There could be financial incentives for working on some of the high priority features;the specifics of this financial compensation will be discussed on a case-by-case basis. People interested in learning more about this opportunity should contact me by email at pec...@vt.edu.
