Hi folks - I think it's time to transition across to a fb group, as we've discussed in the past. The downside is that we can't transfer the fans (about 1300 people) from our page - all we can do a stick a post at the top of the page telling them to use the new FB Group. However, the long run benefit of the FB group is that all members can post direct to the group (but we can ban people, moderate posts etc) which will create a much more vibrant and interactive community. So, the group can live and grow without relying on us.

I will do the work on it next week, unless I hear any objections.

Warm regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I agree with the transition to a Facebook Group! Sticking a post at the top of the existing Page should be fine, and we can have a transition period where news relevant to a broader audience ("the fans" is cross-posted).

Chris, I assume you'll write moderation / posting guidelines in the process of creating this group. Can you run that by us before posting them? We want to walk that fine line between being inclusive of all that Ecovillage is, and not end up with a dozen articles about magically curing all your health issues with bilberries and a moderator who's stressed that she'll offend someone by deleting them.

Chris or others, feel free to nominate someone to check the page regularly and moderate the posts, if a candidate comes to mind. I'm not the right person for the job, but will look for and help another volunteer as needed.

Thanks for working on this!
Best,
Carly

Hi Chris,

I agree thats its time to transition to fb group. Before you go ahead and do that please can you have a look at FB and the other pages GENOA has created in the past. Is there a way to tidy it up so when people look for GENOA , they will only find either the group or the page. Here are the other pages related to GENOA.

I agree with Carly about creating posting guidelines. Maybe this could be as a permanent post at the top of the group page? I think its better not to rely on a moderator though and allow members to post freely but with the guidelines. Chris, if you write this up, please do send to us to add or edit it.

I like that you said that if we don't get back to you by next week, you will go ahead and start the page. In the future though, could you give a cut off date? eg. I will start the work by Friday 2 August unless i hear any objections.

Thanks for doing the work Chris! Much appreciated!

With gratitude,

Trudy

I agree with this move and the need for guidelines. I did just that for the innerdance group as people were starting to post instagram quotes, material that didn't originate from the source and articles that have no relation to the process. And a slew of event invites using fb groups for social marketing. The same was inevitable for the emergence convergence group page.

Thanks for this, hope to support it once the page is up. Will add members to it from the many openings that have come up these last months
