Hello!
I would like to ask you the following questions:
1. Does Genie deploy the cluster only on Amazon? Is vendor cloud free? Can I deploy it for example on OpenStack?
2. How Genie compares with Apache Brooklyn?

I look forward for your answers.

Hi Florin,

Genie is not tied to AWS and can be deployed in any manner you see fit. We have a demo based in docker containers (instructions here) that has nothing to do with AWS for example. You should be able to deploy a Genie cluster anywhere and plug in features you need by implementing interfaces if necessary.

I'm not personally familiar with Apache Brooklyn but taking a quick look it looks like some kind of generic cluster deployment/description tool maybe similar to Chef? To be clear Genie does not provision or deploy clusters or resources. It is a "microservice" that stores the metadata about existing computational resources (clusters) and provides a scalable, abstracted platform for users and systems to run jobs (queries, etl, etc) on those computational resources. Cluster provisioning is handled by other services like Spinnaker or directly using AWS tools.

Hope that helps.
