Any chance of getting it going again? Please? Pretty please?

You can always try out flex if you really want to play race online
while genie is down. You can even get some RvI games there.

Thanks for the tip.How many people know about it though ? And how do
I get into the game when it is ready to start?

I think its popularity is picking up. About 300 players have
completed a game there (as opposed to 2600 on genie).

If you join a real time game, you tend to be able to play through.
I'd guess a game starts around every 10 minutes.

I can play two-player games on flex, but not 4-player.One player just
leaves and kills the game - and there is no freeze-out option,is
there? and no ratings. So I do hope the Genie server goes back
up,soon,before everyone loses interest !

Hi,

unfortunately I'm not home and it seems the IP address has changed to genie.
I will try to get it up as soon as possible but it probably will be down a few days this time.

Well, it's going to hit me hard. I'm away from net access all next
week, and under normal circumstances I'd have had all my games
finished before going away. Now, I'm no doubt going to be frozen out
of the games I'm in :(

Ah well, can't be helped.

Thanks, as always, for the work you do keeping the server running as
much as it is!

Yes,to echo Mike, thanks for the good work.Let's hope people keep
checking the pages when it comes back.
I also hope people use common sense and hold back on
freeze - outs this time.

It is already down a few days. If you start the server up again, could you disable the freezing of slow players? Everybody is slow now, and the first person to log in will be able to freeze everybody.

Also, I don't know what your server setup is like, but can't you add an automatic restart for when it goes down? I'm pretty sure this is possible in containers like Tomcat and Jetty, but I have no idea what you're using. Or is it the machine itself that goes down?

Those are good ideas -thanks Martin [although please re-enable the
freeze later on if you do disable it,Genie Master].
N.B. Any chance of making your first move in the game
we're both in on the flex platform,Martin ?

Hi all,

bad news I'm afraid. I had someone restarting the server but it seems to be a more severe problem this time. I can't fix it from abroad and I will not be back home for another three weeks.

I'll do my best to get it going again but I would suggest going somewhere else for your rftg fix during the next few weeks.

very sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,
J

That's a bummer! Thanks for the update.

Do you have sufficient control that you could redirect the main page
and activelist URLs to a "down until July" page? That would save a
lot of wondering/reloading for the many rftgers who don't read the
forum.
