Hi,

I am having hard time reserving resources using the stitching service. Earlier there were issues with uky-emulab, so I replaced that host. But, the request is still failing because of problems at the Missouri AM.

Here is the error output-

stitcher.py createsliver OFtopov5 OFtopov5.rspec  -o

I believe the latest stitcher.py, which is being tested for release in the next couple of days, fixes this problem.
I have taken your topology with a minor modification to the bandwidth (used 20,000 so I would not take up too much resources) and re-ran your topology. I did not run into the problem, although I was not able to complete the
create sliver because there are not enough VLANs at Missouri.  I will try again, when VLANs are available.

Thanks Luisa.
I was also having some problems with the uky-emulab AM. I have attached the error file here.
Could you please take a look at that error as well?

Hello Aditi,

I looked at the UKY PG failures log you sent and it looks like there was
not enough bandwidth to allocate the topology you requested.

Also, I have tried again to run you current topology, but once again there
is not enough VLANs at Missouri, I will keep trying and will let you know.

Is there some problem with the stitching service?

I have been trying to use the service all day, and my request failed every single time. So far, I have got errors at Missouri, uky-emulab, illinois, wisconsin.

Luisa mentioned in her email that there weren't enough VLANs at Missouri and emulab. So I omitted those two AMs, but my request is still not going through.
I tried to reserve resources for a simple topology with just 3 AMs, and even that failed. I have attached the rspec file and the error log for the simple topology.

Also, the gpo node is failing to load.

Here is the error-
Nodes:

I would appreciate if someone could tell me what the issue is.

Hello Aditi,

There was a memory problem on the ION Aggregate Manager host. As you know all connections between your nodes go through the ION aggregate. That may have played
a role in causing failures. Also there has been a lot of stitching usage
over the past few days for release testing and for GEC tutorial preparation.

I looked at the file enclosed and the error message "request tag XXX is already in use"
is the same failure as earlier which is fixed by the next version of stitcher that
is being tested now and to be released in the next couple of days.

Sorry about the inconvenience,

Luisa

Hey Luisa,

That makes sense !!! Yes, all my connections between nodes involved ION AM.
I'll give it a try after a couple of days then.
Thanks Luisa.

Xi Yang is having problems sending email to this list.  Below is an email response that he has asked me to forward to this list:

From: Xi Yang <max...@umd.edu>
Subject: Re: [geni-users] Issues with stitching service
Date: March 5, 2014 at 10:26:50 AM EST

Based on further investigation on the ION AM, we believe the issue is irrelevant to the problem we had here.
I recommend continuing your tests. We need to figure out why some PG and IG sites are refusing randomized VLAN computed by SCS.
Could that be inconsistency between internal and advertised VLAN ranges?

Utah ProtoGENI (emulab.net) had a crash this morning, but should be back now. If you are still seeing problems, let us know.

Try again now. Before I couldn't get any reservation at Utah, and now I can.

Hey,

I am just not able to reserve resources using the stitching service. Every time the request fails by giving errors at different AMs from my topology.

First it failed at Missouri-

17:54:39 ERROR    stitcher: Stitching failed with an error: <Aggregate urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.rnet.missouri.edu+authority+cm> <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.rnet.missouri.edu+interface+procurve2:1.19' on path u'stitched3'> has request tag 1159 that is already in use by <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.rnet.missouri.edu+interface+procurve2:1.19' on path u'stitched1'>

So I removed the Missouri node, and it failed at GPO-

21:05:42 ERROR    stitcher: Stitching failed with an error: <Aggregate urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.gpolab.bbn.com+authority+cm> <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.gpolab.bbn.com+interface+procurve2:5.24.ion.newy.ae0' on path u'stitched6'> has request tag 3716 that is already in use by <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.gpolab.bbn.com+interface+procurve2:5.24.ion.newy.ae0' on path u'stitched8'>

So I modified the topology, and it failed at emulab-

21:20:11 ERROR    stitcher: Stitching failed with an error: <Aggregate urn:publicid:IDN+uky.emulab.net+authority+cm> <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+uky.emulab.net+interface+cisco1:1.2' on path u'stitched6'> has request tag 850 that is already in use by <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+uky.emulab.net+interface+cisco1:1.2' on path u'stitched3'>

I then removed the emulab node, and it again failed at Illinois-

<Aggregate urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.illinois.edu+authority+cm> <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.illinois.edu+interface+procurve2:2.4:ion.chic.et-10_0_0' on path u'stitched3'> has request tag 1767 that is already in use by <Hop u'urn:publicid:IDN+instageni.illinois.edu+interface+procurve2:2.4:ion.chic.et-10_0_0' on path u'stitched0'>

I have tried it many times, and changing AMs is not helping.

I am attaching my rspec file here. If someone could try out my rspec file, it would be appreciated.

Hi Aditi,

I believe, although Aaron or Luisa should confirm, that the errors you
are getting are transient, i.e. the script will try again to correct
these errors you are seeing.

I would suggest start with your original topology, start the script and
let it run (use the -o option). Wait until stitcher actually finishes to
see if you succeed or failed.

Best,
Niky

Hey Niky,

I pass the o option every time I run the stitcher.py script. In all the cases, I let the test complete. Everytime the request failed by giving the error below at one of the AMs from my topology, and then the test completed by deleting partial reservation. I din't paste the entire output, because I observed this same pattern across all the tests. Hence, I just highlighted the error that was common across all the tests.
Let me know if you would like to see the entire output.

Aditi-

This is the same error you have been seeing for a while. It has nothing to do with the particular AM. It is a known bug in the stitcher service that will be resolved in the next version of stitcher - hopefully released early next week.
