We had a question earlier where somebody wanted to know the difference
between using
portal.geni.net and
protogeni.net/flack and why one would
use one over the other.
I thought I'd cross-post this answer here so that a broader audience can
see it:
The site at
portal.geni.net is the GENI Portal which is run by the GPO. You use
your shibboleth University identity and once they approve you for a project you
use it to create experiments. It includes Flack, the GUI for allocating
resources, but also includes the various mechanisms they have set up for
creating and managing your own account and others in your project.
The
protogeni.net/flack site simply provides access to just Flack. It is used
if you already have an account at the Utah Emulab or one of the other Emulab
installations. Managing your account, etc. is done through your local Emulab
and the tool is just used to allocate and manage resources afterwards.
