Hello GENI Users,
In the interest of GENI Users, I wish to let everyone know about stability issues with respect to the Rutgers Instageni Rack, Stanford Instageni Rack and UCLA Instageni Rack. We have been noticing frequent reboot to the physical nodes in these racks caused by some user VM process . This issue forces a reboot of the physical node causing GENI Users VM to fail or existing ones fail to boot. This issue has been ongoing since around Christmas time 2016 . We have been unable to identify the cause yet but are still working on it. We would appreciate it if GENI Users would avoid these racks
To fix the issue we need to clear out the shared node pool at
these racks. Effective today, no slices will be able to get
resources on
the shared pool, and existing slices that use the shared node pool
cannot be extended.
In about a week we will terminate anything that is left. Please
act accordingly.
Then we will reload the shared pool with XEN 4.6 (up from 4.1.0).
If all goes well, the shared pool will be back in operation by the
end of next week.
