Background:

The GEC22 demo visualization VM is on project LWTesting, slice Server, and running on the UtahDDC AM as @pcvm2-3.utahddc.geniracks.net
I was added to the project/slice 2 days ago and I was able to log into it (and still can).

To migrate it off of UtahDDC, I made a snapshot of the running XenVM:
And then tried the following:

1. Created a new slice in different project SDXx / fei1, added resource on Northwestern Instageni Aggregate:
when adding resources in Jacks, selected "Other..." as Disk Image, and used the Image ID as URL  -- as per the instructions at

Section
Using an Image on another Aggregate Manager

The VM comes up (pcvm5-14.instageni.northwestern.edu), but SSH will ask for password instead of accepting the same key:
debug1: Next authentication method: publickey
debug1: Trying private key: /home/fyeh/.ssh/identity
debug3: no such identity: /home/fyeh/.ssh/identity
debug1: Offering public key: /home/fyeh/.ssh/id_rsa
debug3: send_pubkey_test
debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply
debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password
debug1: Offering public key: /home/fyeh/.ssh/id_dsa
debug3: send_pubkey_test
debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply
debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey, password
debug2: we did not send a packet, disable method
debug3: authmethod_lookup password
debug3: remaining preferred: ,password
debug3: authmethod_is_enabled password
debug1: Next authentication method: password

2. Tried the same with the same project (LWTesting), but a different slice (nwudemo), same results
3. Tried the same with same project (LWTesting) and same slice (Server): same results

Here's Attempt 3's rspec:

Hello Fei,

I'm guessing this VM is no longer up. Did you succeed in logging into it?

If this happens again, pl. see if somebody else in your slice is able to
log in. In the case of this particular VM, I see a few people from the
GPO have accounts. Email us and one of us can try to log in.

There used to be a old bug where the owner of the home directory of the
person creating the custom image was not set correctly. This prevented
the person creating the image from logging in but others in the slice
could. This bug has been fixed but it is possible the GEC22 demo
visualization VM was created before the fix was put in place.

If it is indeed this old bug surfacing again, you have two options:
1. Have somebody log into your VM running your custom image and fix the
ownership of your home directory.
2. Log into the original VM, delete all the directories in /users and
then create your custom image.

Best wishes,

< Vic
