Hi,

I am trying to experiment using OpenVswitches on GENI. Till now I have been able to transfer files among hosts connected by OpenVSwithces. Now I need to work with controller. I have tried to transfer file using both Beacon and POX controller. Both are working great.

My Questions are:

1. I need to use multicasting. Is there anything already implemented about multcasting in any controller or OVS?
2. Which controller ( beacon or POX) I should choose to work with OVSs on GENI. Actually I am more comfortable with Java/c++ rather than Python ( Only basic skill).

Thanks
Amjad

Hi Amjad,

It is great that your setup is working.

Using OVS in GENI should be no different than using OVS anywhere else
or for that matter using any 1.0 compliant openflow switch[1]. I am not
aware of any multicast specific controllers. But this list might not be
the right place for this question, an openflow-specific[2] mailing list
might be a better place to ask.

As far as which controller platform you should use, you should feel free
to use any 1.0 compliant controller. If you are more proficient in Java
then beacon is probably the way to go. May I suggest that you take a
look at floodlight[3] as well that is a project originated from beacon
but is to the best of my knowledge a more mature controller framework.

Good luck,
Niky

[1] Take this statement with a grain of salt since every OpenFlow 1.0
implementation has some caveats, but OVS is a fully 1.0 compliant switch
so you should be good
