Courtesy of Tahsin Kabir and Paul Ruth comes a new entry in the ExoBlog explaining how to create your own custom OS image for a VM without using the playpen. We have developed a new script that will be integrated into the NEuca tools soon (but can be downloaded now) that can scrape the necessary portions of your running image and help you create a new one. You can also use the storage slivering capabilities of the ExoGENI racks to create volumes on which the images can be saved.

We anticipate retiring the ExoGENI playpen in the near future, as its use turned out to be awkward. This procedure should make things a lot easier for the experimenters.
