Hi all,

I am currently doing experiment that requires the traffic with decent bandwidth (around 20Mbits/sec) out of the GENI VMs on the Utah InstaGENI site. But on some slices I observe that the outgoing bandwidth is quite high (20 to 30 Mbits/sec), but on others it is quite low (less than 1Mbit/sec). Is there a way in the spec to specify the outgoing traffic out of a VM? Is there a way to do this from the portal?

Thanks
Zihao

Hello Zihao,

I assume this is the same issue as the earlier email and that by outgoing interface you mean the control connection that you use to connect to your local machine. If not, please let me know.

Hi Luisa,

Thanks for the response. Sorry for the duplicate email. I deleted the earlier email but Google group doesn't propagate the update to the rest of the group.

Yes, the control connection is what I mean. It would be nice to be able to have a higher bandwidth limit on the outgoing traffic. I assume GENI internally does it, but it would be very useful to have a higher bandwidth for outgoing connection for certain cases such as cross-site experiment that require high inter-site bandwidth etc. Or perhaps GENI does have a connection type other than local and control (for traffic that goes out of the VM)?

Thanks

No problem.

The intent of the control connection is for managing your experiment. It is possible to run a cross-site experiments in GENI by selecting different sites and connecting them with a stitched link.   To see how to requested a stitched link between two GENI sites please see this GENI VLAN Stitching procedure:

If you have any questions, please let me know,
