Hi Heyu,

Can you try another couple of tests for us?

1) Run this command from inside your VM:
 telnet instageni.clemson.edu 843

You should see the following output:
Trying 130.127.215.132...
Connected to instageni.clemson.edu.
Escape character is '^]'.
<cross-domain-policy> <site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only"/> <allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="80,443,12369,3069"/> </cross-domain-policy>
Connection closed by foreign host.

2) Run this command from inside your VM:
 telnet instageni.clemson.edu 12369

In this case it should open a telnet session.  CTRL-C to get out of it

Let us now if you see something similar for both of these.

Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for you quick respond!
I can connect to other websites on VM. I tried to ping places listed below and all of them worked.

Flack

TCP 80www.protogeni.net Flack
TCP 443portal.geni.net Portal
TCP 443www.emulab.net For Flack

In the attachment, I have added 3 PNG files and 2 txt files. If there is any other information that I can provide to help, please let me know.

Thank you!

Hi Heyu,

We're suspicious that something is wrong with the networking on your Ubuntu VM.  If the connections to the aggregates were timing out, it would explain both the slowness and the red refresh buttons.
* Can you check connectivity to non-GENI things from within the Ubuntu VM?  That is, can you ping non-GENI servers, etc?
* Is there a firewall on the Ubuntu VM that could be blocking some ports that GENI uses?  [1]
* Finally, can you send us a screenshot of what Flack looks like when it doesn't work?  We're interested in which AMs are red and also the version number of Flack that you are running (it should be v17.26 which is shown in the upper right hand corner).

Thanks,

Dear GENI help:

My system is windows 7 and I am running Ubuntu in VM Virtual Box on windows 7.
On both platforms(windows7 & Ubuntun), I am using Chrome 33.0.01750 to open Flacks. There are two problems I am facing:
1, Flack loading speed: On the windows platform, the flack loading speed is way much faster than loading speed on Ubuntu.
2, Available managers:
On the windows, after the flack loaded, all managers listed on the left plane are available - green check in front of each manager name on the left panel and managers are listed in the slice.
But on the Ubuntu, I can only see one or two managers that are available to me- only one or two managers have a green check, others are a red refreshing button and limited managers listed in the slice.

Within these two problems, I am wondering if this is platform's issue or my settings for Ubuntu is wrong.

Please help me on this, thank you!

Sincerely,
Heyu(Hunter) Liu
