Questions about openflow switches

Hi,

I am working on a project about running a layer 3 protocol on openflow controllers and switches in geni. I have several questions as follows:

1. Suppose I am going to set up a simple 4 nodes topology as attached where each openflow switch is connected to its own controller and the controller can be in the same physical machine with the host if possible. Is it feasible to use a mix of VLAN 3715 - 3717 for layer 3 experiments like this? If so, may I get some example rspecs for openflow switch and compute resource reservations? 

2. Is it possible to connect openflow switch to regular routers? If so, how to deal with the change of gateways?

3. The protocol to be tested requires to get incoming packet rate from switch. Are we able to get the access to registers located in physical switch?
