Hey Niky,

Slice name : vtest2-openvz
I am unable to extend the resource at Utah. I had extended the resource
till 6th dec. When I go in my slice and press "Get All", it doesn't
highlight the resources at Utah(all the other resources at highlighted),
and so when I try to renew the date, it gives the error- no resources
renewed. The strange thing is that I am still able to ssh to the Utah
VM, so I am assuming the resource at Utah is still reserved for my
slice(as mentioned earlier its reserved till 6th dec). Could you please
look into this issue? I don't want to lost that VM because if I do I
will have to start all over again, and I have already made many changes
at all the nodes. I will soon be writing scripts to make this process
easier, but for now I am counting on this topology that I have set up to
stay for the reserved duration.
I am really hoping that the Utah resource gets renewed before 6th dec so
that I won't have to start from the scratch again. Please help :)

Thanks,
Aditi

If the Utah AM flagged your resources as idle at any point, you won't be able to renew your resources.  (You should have received an email)

If you need to save your state, you can either copy off what you need, or do a createimage to save an image of your nodes in the state they are currently in, and then you can use that image later to start new resources.

If you missed (or lost) the e-mail, is there a way to find out after the
fact if that happened to you?

Also, does the idle rule apply to VMs? I thought it didn't. Aditi, do you
have any exclusive nodes in your sliver, or only VMs?

I have received an email indicating idle state for the resources in my other slices, but I din't get any such emails for this particular Utah VM.
In fact, I received this email on 5th Dec at 7 pm-
Sliver urn:publicid:IDN+utah.geniracks.net+sliver+32271
from slice urn:publicid:IDN+ch.geni.net:SDN-Video-Traffic-Orchestrator+slice+vtest2-openvz,
is going to expire in approximately 24 hours.
Please renew it or let it expire if you not using it.

Josh- Apparently the idle rule does apply to VMs since I got one 4 days back.
I have only VMs in my topology.

When I click on the "i" option on the Utah VM to create an image of the node, I don't get the option to create the image. For all the other nodes, I am able to create images.
Is there any way I can salvage the Utah VM so that my topology along with all the changes I have made so far are preserved?
I am not sure why I am unable to extend the reservation for the Utah VM when my reservation still exists. Any insights into this would be appreciated. This would be my first choice since that would save me a lot of time.

I looked for your slice at Utah and didn't see it. So it looks like it has
been swapped out. I am working right now on improving the slice extension
code in Flack.

Just to pipe in:

I have a slice (urn:publicid:IDN+ch.geni.net:tutorial+slice+monitor) with resources at ig-utah and ig-gpo.  Yesterday when I did SliverStatus on the ig-utah resources I got an error (which Niky already reported).  But I noticed that the portal thinks there are no resources there (probably because SliverStatus failed).  And I think that behavior matches what you are seeing.

Just now, I tried to renew this sliver via the Portal and via omni and neither worked.  In omni, I got the following error:

Sarah, can you try this again please and let me know if it works.

Thanks!

It looks like this is working now.

I was able to get status via both Portal and omni.
I tried but failed to renew but got an appropriate error (due to me asking for an expiration far in the future).

Awesome ! I was able to extend the reservation for the Utah VM. I am just curious, what was the problem? Was there an issue with the Utah AM or the GENI reservation portal?
Thank you!

Hi Aditi,

The Utah IG rack is technically a development rack and code is tested there before it gets deployed to other racks.

The code on the Utah IG had a bug which has now been fixed and the improved code will be deployed to other racks.
