Hi Flavio,

I am forwarding your email to the geni-users mailing list [1], to see if someone else was successful to run KVM on top of
an IG or EG VM. I am pretty sure you can do what you want with raw PCs. depending on how many you need you might
want to look into that.

Cheers,
Niky

Hi Niky,
how are you?
I have a question on GENI and I was wondering if there is an appropriate mailing list where I can ask.
Maybe you can help me answer, or forward it to the appropriate group.

Here is my question: I doubt it, but do you think is possible to run KVM to manage e.g., generate, migrate, clone VMs and layer2 or 3 networks between them, within nodes acquired as part of a GENI slice?

In other words, would the KVM pre-installation checklist be successful on a GENI VM?
I have created VM from a VM, "recursively", using User Mode Linux (UML), but I am not sure the VM settings that GENI gives would allow runing KVM on it. It is possible that KVM requires the hosting machine to be physical, not virtual, so I realize this is probably a KVM question, not a geni question, but maybe somebody in the geni community has done this before?

IG Xen VMs do not support nested virtualization.  I'm not sure about EG, although OpenStack generally suppresses this feature for security reasons.
