Dear Employees,
It has been brought to our attention that there is an active financial fraud activity in Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley. There is a group of professional alike personnel involved in this activity. A person will call you and claim that he/she is from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and that all your savings accounts are to be frozen due to your Credit Card or other financial related borrowings default payment.
You will then be asked to meet a representative who will help to solve your problem. During the meeting the representative will ask you to call a number claimed to be Bank Negara’s for you to double confirm that BNM is going to freeze all your accounts. After you have done that and come to believe BNM is really going to freeze all your accounts, the representative will ask you to withdraw all the money from all your accounts (bank accounts, ASB, Tabung Haji, etc) and deposit them into some other accounts named by the representative. You will be told that this is a temporarily measure while your problem is being sorted out and that your act of transferring the money will save you from being cashless should BNM make the move of freezing all your accounts. Once you have done the transfers, considered bye-bye to all your money.
The authorities believe that there is also an element of “pukau” (a kind of black magic) in this case.
We urge all employees to be alert of this fraud activity. If you receive such a call, ignore it. BNM will never telephone individuals on freezing their accounts. If they want to notify individuals on financial matters, BNM will do it officially through official letters. And if any meeting is to take place it will be in BNM’s premises.
You may also lodge a police report if you receive such a call
