1.Background

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) is a global initiative focused on drawing attention to the economic benefits of biodiversity by highlighting the growing cost of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.

Toachieve this objective, TEEB produces reports and publications, which present the study results and findings, and provides recommendations to integrate and use these recommendations.

TEEB also undertakes various outreach and communication activities and produces several products to ensure that the key messages reach the target audience. The TEEB website www.teebweb.org is a  key channel of communication for outreach, as well as an information resource database.

TEEB is looking for a Web Master to  maintain the website and ensure the site functions optimally in order to enhance the browsing experience of the Users. Tests speed of access and improves upon loading speed.
 
2.Terms of reference

Under the supervision of the TEEB Coordinator and the Communications Officer, the incumbent will:

1.Update and maintenance of  the WordPress platform Content management system
Task (i) Updating the Wordpress platform themes and  plugins to ensure the optimal functioning of the platform with new features and functionalities to improve the browsing experience. Task (ii) Back-up the website on a regular basis and maintain copies of the backups. Task (iii)  Check for broken links and fix them. Task (iv) Remove disabled plugins and inactive themes. Task (v) updating the website and adapting it to different browsers
2.Address with website trouble shooting problems
Task (i) Deal with all website  bugs, viruses, as and when they arise, undertake  security monitoring in order to prevent malware attacks or hacks from happening.
3.Web design  
Task (i) Advise on additional features/functions that can improve the website  look feel and appearance and where possible integrate these features and functions.
4.Training and Support
Task (i) Deliver  training to staff on how to navigate the CMS and produce an  Operational manuals on how to navigate and update the CMS.

3.Objectives, output expectations and performance indicators

The TEEB website works optimally and the CMS platform and plugins are updated
An operational manual for the CMS
Back-up copies of the website
All bugs and troubleshooting addressed and fixed
Improved  loading speed of website

4.Requirements, eligibility and competencies

Requirements

Extensive knowledge of web development (PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, Javascript)

A minimum of 5 years’ experience developing and maintaining websites with     content management system (CMS), particularly (WordPress)

Ability to provide web services of a similar nature in a timely manner; relevant experience should be showcased in the applicant's portfolio.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Good interpersonal skills

Previous experience working for the UN would be an advantage

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For this post, fluency in spoken and written English is essential.  Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

5.Duration
 
The Consultant will work a total of 40 days over the period between 14 July – 31 December  2014.

6.Travel involved
 No travel is anticipated. Any travel of the consultant will be covered under a separate budget.

7.Indicative level of remuneration

The remuneration for this contract is based on the candidate’s experience.
