Opportunities for digital project managers?

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the group and was wondering if you could help me
out.

I currently live in London and work at AOL as a project manager. (I'm
originally from South Africa where I was doing web related project
management and account management for a large client base consisting
of (amongst others) international advertising agencies, large
corporate websites and global magazines.)

My partner has been transferred to Switzerland and I'd just like to
find out what opportunities exist for someone like me to find
employment in Geneva... essentially I'd just to get a feel for the
market.
I'm concerned that I since I don't have any banking experience my job
opportunities may be limited?

You don't necessarily need banking experience. There is plenty of
other organizations (UN and NGOs) here. There's also P&G and CERN (you
know, the guys who will destroy earth). However, right now the job
market is a bit dire...

and probably many more. However, you'll need to get around, introduce yourself, and find out who does what and how they recruit to get in before the decision is made. In Geneva, networking is an important aspect of job hunting.

Agreed that you don't need banking experience because there are plenty
of other organizations here. However, even if you do want to work in
the banking field doing technology, you should know that you can get a
job with almost any technical background.

I worked at a Swiss Bank for 6 years in the Technology team, and I
often hired great technologists and project managers with no banking
experience. Any knowledge of the business is a plus, but great project
management skills can easily translate. We also had a hard time
recruiting fluent English speakers here in Geneva, so your language
skills will definately help differentiate you.

I left the industry a year ago, but drop me a line and I can put you
in touch with some of my old colleagues/contacts... despite the bad
press, I know that certain banks are still hiring.
