Dear Group,

Does anyone have experience with live video streaming on your intranet?

We would like to live broadcast meetings to our internal audience with the ability for participants to give feedback. We did this during a recent major internal conference, but it was costly and cannot be reproduced for smaller workshops.

One solution that we are investigating is using our web conference facilities (webex...) as a workaround, but I'd like to hear from you if you are providing live video streaming of internal events on your intranet. I'm looking for tips, recommendations, affordable solutions? :)

Hi Ernst,

We are currently using VBrick:  http://www.vbrick.com/index.asp and are quite satisfied with it (We are having a custom made solution and I don't have the full details). If it's in your price range, that might be an option.

Cheers,
Mirweis

We have been using livestream.com and can work with a simple embed where you want it (you can also secure the pages). Else you can find small cameras and there are a few streaming applications for Ipad, Iphone etc which allow to stream and place where you want it.

best,

Olivier

Dear Ernst,

We are using live streaming for some of our internal meetings too, in brief:
- I don't know the software we use for this, please check directly with my colleague Roger Miles (CCed).
- The quality is good for the purpose - understanding what is being said both verbally and non-verbally.
- We do not provide any interactivity (e.g. voting, other feedback, ...).

We also hold A LOT of WebExes.
- For webinars (one-to-many presentations) and online meetings (basically a teleconf with shared screen and interactivity incl. chats).
- WebEx works pretty well, although we are having some audio problems (my guess would be VoIP related).
- For the sharing of high quality video, WebEx in our set up is too low framerate & high delay.

One thing to consider besides the software is the quality of the way in which you capture the audio, video and presentations (if any).
- # of cameras
- way of switching between the cameras
- angles (high on the ceiling can make for really 'looking down' on people)
- operator cost/automation (time, expertise, sophistication)

We use a robotised camera system that is available permanently in our rooms; it provides automatic 'camera follows open mic' functionality, which means the cameras automatically point to where they think an active speaker is seated. This works pretty well. It is not broadcast quality, but a good trade off between coverage, costs and intrusiveness. Downsides include suboptimal angles (the cameras are high on the ceiling), repetitive switching between cameras when people switch their mics on/off quickly after each other, some issues with low/backlight.

I hope this helps.

If you need more, drop me a line and we can arrange for a visit.

Best regards,

Frans

Dear All,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the community. I'm planning to Webcast (streaming) an event in July for external audience and I'm looking for companies based in Geneva that could do the shooting, recording and the streaming.
Would you have any companies to recommend?
Thanks a lot for your kind input.
Regards
Sarah
