ITC Internship programme

Section:  International Trade  Centre  (Geneva),  Division  of  Market  Development, Trade
Information Services Section

Duration: 2 months, starting on 30/10/14 (or as soon as possible), possibility of extension

Background:

In line with ITC’s Operational Plan 2014 and Strategic Plan 2012 - 2015, the overall purpose of this project is to implement a common and unified approach of e-learning in ITC, based on established pedagogical guidelines, course models, delivery templates and coordinated curriculum. The project will support the creation of thirty e-learning modules based on this coordinated approach.

The ultimate objective of the project in 2014 is to consolidate the course offer and design processes and methodologies which have been developed in 2013 to form the basis of a new TRTA offering for ITC towards the strategic objective and vision of an ITC Online Trade Academy, as outlined in ITC’s E-learning 2013-2015 Strategy. For the efficient and effective development of an ITC Online Trade Academy, it is critical that all ITC members are guided on e-learning processes and capacitated on course development and necessary requirements. This project aims to continue addressing this remaining shortcoming in ITC.

To date, ITC has acquired a Learning Management System (LMS) called "Moodle" and engaged in a systems contract with a service provider (“Enovation”) to support the hosting, management, design and delivery of e-learning courses. Focal points in ITC sections have been trained on the use of e- learning to support TRTA and on the functionalities of Moodle. All ITC technical sections have started developing course content and a few sections have actually delivered courses using the new ITC Moodle-based e-learning platform. Final design and functional adjustments to the platform were made and the complete ITC e-learning course offer is available on the dedicated Web address: http://learning.intracen.org. This project will also be the opportunity to design an e-learning partnership policy to be used with both country-based TSIs (multipliers) and International Organisations active in trade-related e-learning themes.

As a continuation to the project outcomes and outputs achieved in 2013, the 2014 project plans to further develop ITC’s e-learning course offer through new course modules, the refining and adapting of the course pedagogy, procedures and processes of course development, learner management approaches, revision of the platform technology, the design of monitoring and evaluation strategies, guidelines and procedures, and the implementation of staff training on e-learning course development to provide both online and blended, certified programs.

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision and management of the E-Learning coordinator, the intern will undertake the following duties:

•  Assist in managing the Moodle platform, including administration, feature suggestions and liaising with the platform provider;
•  Assist in the development of the online course lecture portfolio in Articulate Storyline software,
•  Support the E-Learning team in course content uploads and lead the corresponding logistics
•  Provide suggestions for improving current courses in terms of the overall look and feel, interactivity and multimedia use,
•  Assist in developing new ways of giving interactive assignments to learners.
•  Provide support to the e-learning team with a view to deliver the on-going projects to full satisfaction and produce an end of assignment report including recommendations.
•  Additional tasks and responsibilities to support the E-Learning team including, for example updating materials related to E-Learning on the ITC’s main site, liaising with the CRM team to ensure that the online ITC event calendar is updated, conduct research and prepare presentations on matters related to e-learning.

Qualifications:

•  Master’s degree in marketing, business, design, communications, or equivalent – either currently enrolled in the programme or a recent graduate (up to 12 months).
•  The intern should be fluent in English and operational in French. She/he should have a strong interest in international trade and E-Learning. The candidate should have practical knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, as well as at least basic knowledge of Articulate Storyline software (mandatory). IT Knowledge of basic HTML, website and moodle administration as well as other IT skills would be considered an
asset. Good research and analytical skills and the Ability to work independently and to solve problems required.

Please submit your application to the Internship Programme on the ITC’s website and send
an email at mordzak(at)intracen.org, notifying your application.
