Dear all,

I am having difficulty to submit my Kobo form. I think there might be a glitch in the system. I tried to submit a form but it now requires information for pop2 to pop100 even though I only defined 1 pop. I then tried to save a draft but it does not allow me to do so. Error message: file name has already been taken even though it is a new name and also some information is missing from form, see areas marked in red.

I also had to retype the information entered 4 times because the system kept on deleting information. Has anybody struggled with this? I will keep the webpage open until I hear from someone. I really do not want to type everything from scratch again.

Thanks,

Isa-Rita

Thanks Fumiko for the nice R tip.

Sorry to everyone I didn't point the J. blancoi example to the right id. This has now been corrected in the form. Commit https://github.com/AliciaMstt/GeneticIndicators/commit/b56357f207e50ce114caf36d9ee217d0e14fbb3f

If anyone else submitted the wrong id, please let us know in which species this happened and we (or someone from your country) can made the corrections in the data.

Hi Alicia,

Thanks for confirming!

Jessica (da Silva), if you see this, could you please update the GBIF Taxon ID for the Syncerus caffer caffer assessment I just submitted for South Africa? It should change from 7L4HB to 7261410.

Hi,

This is a mistake on my side. You should include the taxonID from GBIF, I will change the example of J. blancoi in the form.

Hi team,

I noticed what is potentially an error with the GBIF TaxonID example, but correct me if I'm wrong. The example in the Kobo form v4 is for Juniperus blancoi, with the GBIF TaxonID given as "6NGG2", but it turns out this is actually the Catalogue of Life TaxonID (https://www.catalogueoflife.org/data/taxon/6NGG2). The GBIF ID for J. blancoi appears to be "2684495". If you search for Juniperus blancoi on GBIF, you get to this page (https://www.gbif.org/species/2684495), and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, it lists all the TaxonIDs from various databases.

I noticed this because I couldn't find the same page for Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer), as the example given (https://www.gbif.org/species/175148903/verbatim), with "verbatim" view.

Should I go ahead and list the GBIF TaxonID in future ("7261410" for Cape buffalo), or the Catalogue of Life TaxonID (7L4HB, for Cape buffalo)?

Cheers

Deon

Hi Isa-Rita,

I would need to check mysefl what's going on to understand if this is a bug. Could you send a screenshot of how you answered the number of pops question and the questions where information was being deleted? Also of the error message and the areas it is marking in red. Thanks.

Hi Alicia,

See screenshot of the number of extant populations and a screenshot of the error message when I am trying to submit the form. The error is because I did not complete the information about Nc for pop2-pop100. These boxes are all marked in red. You can also see the red fields in screenshot “Error and red fields” in the background. I defined 1 extant population but the form expects information for 100 populations so therefore I can’t submit my form. Not sure why I am not allowed to save it, see screenshot “Save”. I did use a different name from the first draft (see screenshot “First draft name”).

I hope this will help. No need to rush. I have already shared the important information with Jessica so we can fix this when you have time/next week.

Maybe I did something stupid. Sorry!

I confirm that I see a similar problem- I have not see this before.  I open a new form, click 4 populations extinct and 4 extant (just as a test), click that I only have Nc data, click no Ne, click other populations might exist... and it opens the form for all 100 populations whereas previously it would only open up options for 4 populations.  I have not seen this so I am guessing a recent change in the form may have caused this?  Jess or Alicia if you can try just a toy example to see if you see the same problems.

Hi all,

I just confirmed it too. It must had happened when I edited the conditions in the last commit. I will make the corrections in a moment, please do not submit further entries. It's a mistake on my side, probably in the edition of the populations constrains. Sorry for that.

Hello all. The bug has been corrected, I think. Could some of you please test if everything works as it should? I have done so submitting one species assesment, but it is always better to have extra eyes testing it. I'm thinking the "copy answers from pop1" can behave weirdly when in pop2 we change a select_one answer to "unknown", since this affects the conditionals in the other questions. Please make few test and let me know how it behaves, an alternative could be to copy the answers of pop1 in fewer cases.

Cheers,

Alicia

Dear Alicia,

I can now save drafts of the form but I still have the boxes for pop2-pop100 in the form (these boxes were not available when I worked on the form earlier this week). Remember I only defined 1 extant population. See attached the error screenshot when I try to submit the form. This is the information for pop6. This field is required but I only have 1 population.

Thanks,

Isa-Rita

Hi Isa-Rita,

I think something funny most be going on regarding your data being saved in the previous version being in conflict with the new version deployment, since some fields involved a somehow major edit. Could we have a quick call and screen share to see if I can make it work? Otherwise I think you will have to re-submit from scratch. Sorry for this, it won't happen in the future.

Cheers,

a

Hi Alicia,

I think it worked in the end. I completed a new form and I managed to submit it. I agree, some conflict between the old and new versions I had. All good now. Thanks so much for your help!
