Hi all,

We have a "not so pressing" question regarding Q23 - IF AVAILABLE, PLEASE RECORD THE OVERALL DECLINE IN SPECIES' HABITAT AREA.
We understand this question expects a percentage of habitat area lost and is meant to inform on population fragmentation/(increasing) population numbers under fragmentation that we have discussed a lot.
In practice, what we often find in reports is that "suitable habitat has declined", without a percentage or even without any subjective appreciation by how much it may have been lost. We were wondering if such information can /should be recorded, as our feeling is that it's valuable info that might give a useful indication on conservation perspectives for the population.
Any reactions welcome!

Cheers,
Myriam and Gaëlle

I agree. We don't want to make the form longer but pershaps we could include the option of a comment or ticking a box about that simple says has there been a decline in habitat area, yes or no.

I welcome everyone else to comment on this question.  My first thought is that I'm not sure how helpful this would be for either conservation or conservation genetics, if you don't know how large the decline is.  On the other hand, yes it would be very simple to add such a check box.  Please comment everyone!
