Subject: Summer CSA Week 7
Whew! The blazing heat that was predicted missed us. It was hot and steamy, but not like the weather man said it would be. We started really early in an attempt to get inside processing crops before it hit hard. It was still better to be inside that out in the steamy air. I am not so sure we will be so fortunate tomorrow. The whole week sounds bad. We have to adapt when it gets too hot. I always worry about the guys working too long in the sun and humidity. Heat stroke is not something to take lightly.
We have been working hard on weeds, but this week we may have to let them go a bit. It seems with the heat they have taken off - especially the grasses. Our goal is to not allow weeds to go to seed. That means getting them out of the field before that can happen. We have a lot of spots where that is imminent. But, weeds or not, the guys are more important. If you are here for the farm party this weekend you will be able to witness the areas where we are fighting to gain control. Overall, I am proud of the work the guys have done because we look relatively good.
Because I have to be up at the crack of dawn, I think I better head in to shower and eat. More chatting next week.
