But note – there’s a later email from Vicki saying the peaches will come next week.

Eggs: This week both weekly and bi-weekly egg share members receive eggs.
I was up early this morning, watching the day come to life. The quiet solitude of the earth in the morning is so refreshing. I sat outside in the early morning briskness of fall. To the east the sun first began its ascent, lightening the horizon almost imperceptibly at first. Then, gradually hues of pinks and oranges spread in streaks across the sky. The various birds of farm country were already up, gathering their morning treats. As they rose to the sky, their silhouettes, darted and soared in vivid contrast to the the glowing clouds. To the west hovering in the sky was a huge, fat full moon, waiting to set - perhaps so I could revel in its glory. Slowly, yet ever increasing, the silence of the night was overcome with the melody of bird song. And there I sat, heat steaming off my cup of morning coffee, a blanket over my knees, reveling in all the wonders of an early morning sunrise in farm country.
This quietude will soon be replaced with the roaring of tractors, the sounds of radios playing and men shouting back and forth as they work the field and harvest the crops. Soon, the crops will begin to come in and pile up in the packing shed. These sights and sounds are all pleasurable to me, but what makes my day are the moments when I am alone on the farm, enjoying what nature brings my way.
We are moving into the fall harvest season, with the last of the fall crops being planted, and many final harvests taking place. It is a season I love, and yet feel a touch sad to know that summer is on its way out. I feel we just started with eggplant and peppers, and hesitate to move into the fall roots and winter squash. I just want to enjoy the last vestiges of summer for just a bit longer. But, inevitably, summer will end and fall will be undeniably prevail. Ready for roots and squash or are you wanting to hang on just a teeny bit longer, also?
Your box
Japanese Eggplant - try a traditional preparation of crushing one or two cloves of garlic into a skillet, adding soy sauce and diced eggplant. Saute, adding soy if needed, until tender.
Ida Red apples - Hillside Orchards - If you want to make applesauce, save a couple of each apple variety. Apple sauce made with several varieties is the tastiest. We will keep having apples as fall progresses.
Nectarines - Mick Klug Farm - these are so juicy and sweet after they ripen up
Peaches - Mick Klug Farm - this is another free stone peach that is tasty, but not quite as good as Red havens
Cucumber - this might be the end of these guys with temps in the 40's coming this week.
Red onion
Mixed varieties of sweet peppers - bagged
Jalapeno peppers - we did not bag these as the boxes were a bit too full and as individuals they slid down into little crevases
Golden beets - guess we are moving into the fall crops whether I want to or not.
