I’m forwarding to the group the latest email from Vicki to those who have not yet signed up for 2012.
Unfortunately, my husband and I will be travelling so much that subscribing to the CSA doesn’t make sense for us this year, so I have a request: Is there someone now getting these emails who is willing to “moderate” the group? That means, at a minimum, reviewing membership requests (we have a closed group to avoid spam, but the application/approval process is pro forma) and forwarding to the group (genesis-g...@googlegroups.com) the emails that Vicki sends out. It’s easy and takes practically no time.
If you are interested/willing to take over moderating the group, please email me at LSK...@gmail.com

Here we are to February! It is hard for me to comprehend we have actually made to the month when we hit all the turbulence nature can throw at us while she slowly relinquishes her claims to winter to move us into spring. Blessed spring! My favorite season. It is a time of renewal. A time of regrowth. A time of freshness and renewed vigor and vitality. Here on the farm we get two springs: one inside, six to eight week before spring outside, and the natural one outside. How lucky can I be? One of the new hoop houses is moving ahead nicely, but still not done. I will have crops ready for it when it is ready for me and then I will have one more place to have fun in the indoor springtime.
We have been busy sowing seed for spring CSA and have already planted some fun crops in preparation for April harvests. The onions I am hoping bulb up in April are looking great. The napa cabbage has been planted and is smiling with these temperate nights. But, along with sowing for our spring crops we have been sowing for outside spring plantings. Amazing that we could potentially be out in the field in 6 weeks. By then I will know how the overwintered field crops have fared this winter. The freeze thaw cycles we've had are not good for the winter crops, but I think they are okay. Overall, we have not really frozen too deeply yet this year.
Those in the know say that plant disease and insect cycles will be worse following a winter without a deep freeze. I don't see much difference in the insect populations, but perhaps for those who count, there is a notable difference. I suppose I will wait and see what we get.
Early season enrollment last until Feb 15th, if you want to take advantage of that discount. I have attached a form for your use. Enjoy your week, and think spring!
The photo is of our napa cabbage. They really are happy. P.S. This note is being sent to all 2011 members. If you have signed up for 2012 already, you are on another list and will receive additional, different emails.
