GenerAsian neXt E-News Letter

Cycles, Circles, and Celebration

Bonjour!  As expected "les bleus" easily defeated the Brazilians last week as they make their way to Le Champion du Monde est numero deux in the world's game, the FIFA World Cup.

I talk about the World Cup not only because it is one of the world's most entertaining sports but also because it does what armies, politics, and other elements of power can not, which is unite people without the influence of power.

It is amazing how a one pound  truncated octahedron of leather can bring people from different religious, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds from all edges of the globe, together in the spirit of competition and being the best they can be.

It's amazing to watch as war-torn countries stop civil wars, political enemies shake hands on the pitch, and the smallest countries are evenly matched with the world's biggest on the world's stage.  It allows you to remark that no matter our differences, intrinsically, we are all very much the same in what we want and how we react to life's triumphs and tribulations.

Now as we stand a month and a half away from our 6th Annual GenerAsian neXt Conference, I am not saying that our conference compares anywhere near the Champs-Elysees of global diversity and unity that the World Cup is, but it is an avenue for Asian Americans from different religious, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, to come together one day and celebrate one ideal, be proud to be Asian American.

It is the hope of all those who bring you this momentous event, that on August 19th, that is a day where each and every one of you can attend and bring your family and friends to share and to grow with them as well as those who are externally different from you.  We hope that you will come and leave as a strong individual as a part of an even stronger diverse whole.

Now last week I sent out a list of benefits of the conference as well as some testimonials of past participants.  In the upcoming weeks, I will take the daunting task of introducing the successful community leaders that will directly lead and bring forth the spirit of GenerAsian neXt to those of you who are lucky enough to hear their message.  As for today, since we are still getting to know each other, I will briefly share what are some of the new things that that we would like to incorporate into this year's GenerAsian neXt.  I say "some" because everyday, the GenerAsian neXt committee is working to bring you the best possible programming and best possible conference experience as we can.  Here are some of what we will focus on more this year.
