LET'S GET READY!
The 6th Annual GenerAsian neXt
Youth Leadership Conference is coming in a week. We are very excited
for the chance to meet you all. This week, we want to introduce three
workshops that will definitely be fun and get your thinking caps
working. Are you ready? Let's go!
Parent Track:
The Other Perspective
This brand new track is definitely
one you don't want to miss. Parents want to know what their children
are thinking. Children want to know what their parents are
thinking. How can this become a reality? The Other Perspective
explores the perspectives of parents and youth and examines the issues that
are important in their relationship. Some of the hot topics to be
covered include: college and preferred major selections, peer to peer
pressure, compatibleness and racial conflicts, concepts of dependency and
independency, and more! This interactive session will incorporate a
panel of two youth and two parents to talk about their views of parent-child
relationships. The session will also open up to the audience for an
open forum. One thing's for sure, those who attend the session will
have more insight about familial relationships and communication.
L
eadership
101: Jason & Andrea Huang
Jason and Andrea Huang are second
generation Taiwanese and Chinese Americans. Raised in the Midwest, they were the "token Asians" in
their high schools. They attended The Ohio State University and moved
to Michigan after
they got married. Currently Jason works for Daimler Chrysler as an
electrical engineer and Andrea works for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at
University of Michigan—Dearborn where she mentors student leaders. In
their workshop, they will share their vision of how to understand cross
cultural issues and how to become effective expeditious leaders by being
growing leaders at a young age. They will also discuss how being Asian
American is a bridge to becoming a global leader in the 21st
century! Don't miss this fun and beneficial session!
M
iddle School Track:
Activities
The Middle School Track is
completely revamped this year, as it features a brand-new set of
programming. It will be lead by Healthy Asian Youth 2 After-School
Program Project Coordinators Viruck Tep and Emily Mark. This fun-filled
track features two sessions, one about family and the other about
leadership. Each track will feature video clips, discussions, and
activities to learn about how to better understand family relationships and
leadership roles. Activities include "Its all in the Family" where
participants get to bring out the actor within and play out different family
scenarios. Or learn different leadership roles as you work as a team to
build models out of straws. Or see if you can cross our makeshift
minefield (don't worry it's just paper!) by making smart decisions! Or
if you like volleyball, how would you like to play water balloon
volleyball? This is just some of the fun learning experiences in the
Middle School Track. Want to know more, you'll have to come August 19th
to see it for yourself!
