PENRITH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The inspectors appointed to adjudicate upon the green crops entered to compete for the prizes given by the above society, and also to award the BLAMIRE prize for the best stock, have completed their duties, and presented their report to MR. JOHN HESKETT, of Plumpton Hall, the secretary.  It is as follows:

GREEN CROPS & BLAMIRE PRIZE.

To the Committee of the Penrith Agricultural Society.

In accordance with your instructions, we have carefully inspected the fifteen green crops entered for the first-named prize, and have pleasure in reporting that they all were, in our judgment, most excellent crops – heavy on the ground, well-thinned, and in general well cleaned.  We award the first prize to MR. T.D. GRAHAM, of Mellguards, who upon a farm of 180  acres showed 17 acres of swedes, 9 of common turnips, and 1-1/2 of potatoes.  The second prize to MR. M. RICHARDSON of Crossrigg Hall whose farm comprises 385 acres, and whose green crops consist of 36 acres of swedes, 14 of common turnips, and five of potatoes.  The third to MR. NICHOLSON, of Kirkbythore Hall.  The extent of his farm is 700 acres, and he exhibited 33 acres of swedes, 29 of common turnips, 4 of carrots, 4 of mangel wurzel, and 5 of potatoes.  We very highly commend the crops of MR.HARRIS, of Greengill, and MR. KITCHEN, of Thomas Close;  and we commend those of MR. C. ARMSTRONG, of Plumpton, and MR. GLASSON of Harrington Ling.

BLAMIRE PRIZE.

This prize is for the best general stock in the hands of tenant farmers only, resident in East Cumberland and there were four entries for it.  We award the prize to MR. JOHN THOMPSON, of Low Dyke, Catterlen;  and we highly commend the stock of MR. CROSBY, of Tymperon Hall.

We are, gentlemen,
    Your obedient servants,
        WILLIAM LONGRIGG
        ARTHUR GRAHAM
        JOHN DAVIDSON.
