[According to FamilySearch, John BINNS, Widower, aged 30, and Esther CUSSONS, aged 26, married on 15 Oct 1778 at St. Peter, Leeds.]
A few days ago at Threlkeld, (by the Rev. Mr. MARTIN) Mr. William EDMONDSON of Threlkeld, to Miss Mary BANKS of Rigghead.
[According to FamilySearch, William EDMUNDSON and Mary GILLBANKS (not BANKS) married on 07 Oct 1778 at Threlkeld.]
Last week at Crosthwaite-Church, (by the Rev. Mr. EDMONDSON) Mr. George BURNYEAT of St. John's, to Miss Sarah CROSTHWAITE of the same place.
[According to the Parish Register Transcript, George BURNYATE of St. Bees Parish and Sarah CROSTHWAITE married on 14 Oct 1778 at Crosthwaite, Cumberland.]
Yesterday se'ennight at St. Bees (by the Rev. Mr. SCOTT) Mr. Francis TYDEMAN, to Miss Sarah TYDEMAN, both of Moor side near St. Bess [sic].
[According to FamilySearch, both their surnames were TIDYMAN; they married on 20 Oct 1778 at St. Bees. On the Marriage Bond, their surnames are given as TIDIMAN but the groom signs Francis TIDYMAN; he is a Mason, aged 22, and Sarah is a Spinster, aged 18, and has consent of her parents (who are not named).]
A few days ago, in London, Mr. BEETHAN, to Miss PEARSON of Kendal.
[According to the Parish Register, Robert BEETHAM of the Parish of St. Bennett, Gracechurch Street, London, Batchelor, and Elizabeth PEARSON of this Parish, Spinster, married on 11 Oct 1778 at St. Marylebone, London.]

Sunday se'ennight, at Standing-stone, in Kinnyside, in the 98th year of his age, Mr. Robert SHIPHARD, greatly respected.
[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Robert SHEPHERD of Standing stones, aged 67, was buried on 20 Oct 1778 at Ennerdale.]
At Warrington, Mr. BANCKS, bookseller.
[According to Lancashire OPC, Thos. BANCKS of Warrington, Stationer, was buried on 17 Oct 1778 at All Saints, Wigan.]
Thursday last, in the prime of life, Mrs. TWENTYMAN, wife of Mr. TWENTYMAN, a tidesman of this port.
[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Elizabeth TWENTYMAN, wife of Mr. T., of Whitehaven, was buried on 24 Nov [sic] 1778 at Dean.]
Tuesday last, at Cholden-fell near Newcastle, Margaret FENWICK in the 114th year of her age; about six months ago, one of her eyes dropped from its socket, without giving her pain; last new year's day she entertained 107 of her descendants, and at her decease she had 144 [sic] pewter spoons, the annual memorial of her age.
Sunday last, at Broom Park, near the Abbey in Holme, Mrs. Hannah FARISH in the 96th year of her age.

Why would the son or father of the rector have a different surname to him?
Maybe the mother had been married before, and the son kept the name of his real father when his mother remarried?
