A few days ago at Wigton, Mr. James WRIGHT to Miss Esther PEARSON.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, James WRIGHT, batchelor, aged 24, and Esther PEARSON, singlewoman, aged 32, both of this parish, married on 10 Apr 1778 at Wigton.]

 

DIED

 

Thursday last, near Wigton, Mr. J. HUNTINGTON.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Joseph HUNTINGTON, shoemaker, Oulton, aged 53, was buried on 11 Apr 1778 at Wigton.]

 

At Wigton, Mr. LAWSON.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, there was no burial of a Mr. LAWSON around this time. However, Martha, daughter of Wilfrid & Margaret LAWSON, Taylor, Wigton, aged 16, was buried on 11 Apr 1778 at Wigton.]

 

A few days ago, at Resewen near Wigton, Mr. WALTON of Aldston Moor.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, William WALTON, aged 44, Resuan, was buried on 13 Apr 1778 at Wigton.]

 

Last week at Ormskirk, William HILL, Esq. a gentleman well known for his excellent invention of the medicine for the bite of a mad dog.

[According to the Parish Register, William HILL Esqr. of Ormskirk was buried on 13 Apr 1778 at Ormskirk, Lancashire.]

 

A few days ago at Lancaster, greatly and deservedly lamented, Miss GIBSON of that place; a lady of large fortune, and possessed of such a disposition as allowed her to exercise such works of benevolence as rendered her a blessing to the indigent.

[According to the Parish Register, Mrs. Sarah GIBSON of Lancaster was buried on 11 Apr 1778 at St. Mary, Lancaster.]

 

Suddenly at New Town in Abbey Holme, Mr. Daniel WAITE, many years a schoolmaster at that place; he was always treated by his acquaintance (and his death observed) with that respect which is due to so important a character; a character too frequently disregarded, though on the education of youth depends every thing valuable to society.

[According to a transcription of the Bishop's transcripts, Daniel WAITE, Newtown, aged 50, was buried on 14 Apr 1778 at Holme Cultram.]

 

Friday last, at Nook near Bootle, in the 40th year of his age, greatly respected, by all who knew him, Mr. William ASKEW; he taught Psalmody in the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, and Lancashire near twenty years; and was esteemed, by the best judges, one of the greatest vocal musicians in the North of England.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, William ASKEW of Nook, aged 39, was buried on 20 Apr 1778 at Bootle.]

 

Last week, at Shap in Westmorland, Mr. Anthony THOMPSON, inn-keeper.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Anthony THOMPSON of Brackenburgh in Shap, Innkeeper, aged 41, was buried on 13 Apr 1778 at Shap.]
