WESTMORLAND SESSIONS.
The Westmorland Quarter Sessions for the East and West Wards, were held at Appleby, on Monday last, Sir Philip MUSGRAVE, Bart., in the Chair.
The following Magistrates were also on the Bench:—Lord Frederick Cavendish BENTINCK (who took the oaths as a Magistrate of Westmorland that morning); Hon. Col. H. C. LOWTHER, M. P.; Rev. Mr. MILNER, Appleby; Rev. Mr. MILNER, Orton; Rev. Mr. BELLAS, Bongate, M. ATKINSON, Esq., Templesowerby; John HILL, Esq., Bankfoot; and the Rev. Mr. RIPPON, Longmarton.
At these sessions, John CAMPBELL was tried on a charge of stealing, on the 4th inst. a quantity of silver coin, the property of M. PARKIN, of Appleby, and acquitted, after a long investigation.—The trial having only reached us this afternoon, we are obliged to postpone the details till next week. We are also compelled to omit the report of the appeal cause, Thrimby, appellants, Great Strickland, removants; which was decided in favour of the latter after a long inquiry, cleverly conducted by Messrs. COURTENAY and AGLIONBY.
