MARRIED

 

Yesterday, at Cockermouth, Mr. Nicholson LIGHTFOOT of Liverpool, Merchant, to Miss RADCLIFFE, Daughter of Mr. Richard RADCLIFFE of Cockermouth.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index. Nicholas (Nicholson in Marriage bond) LIGHTBODY (not LIGHTFOOT) of Liverpool and Ann RADCLIFFE of Cockermouth married on 04 May 1777 at Cockermouth.]

 

At Wetheral last week, Mr. Joseph BUSHBY, a reputable butcher in Carlisle, to Miss Polly STOCKDALE, of Scotby.

[According to FamilySearch, Joseph BUSHBY and Mary STOCKDALE married on 21 Apr 1777 at Wetheral.]

 

Saturday se'ennight, in London, by special licence, the Right Honourable Lord Viscount BULKELEY, of the kingdom of Ireland, to Miss WARREN, daughter of Sir George WARREN, member for Lancaster. They were attended by the Duke of Dorset and Miss NORTH. The ceremony was performed by the Lord Bishop of Durham.

[According to the Parish Register, the Rt. Honourable Thomas James Lord Viscount BULKELEY of the Kingdom of Ireland a Batchelor, and Elizabeth Harriett WARREN of this Parish a Minor, married on 26 Apr 1777 in the Dwelling house of Sir George WARREN (her father, who gave consent) in Grafton Street, in the Parish of St. George, Hanover Square, London.]

 

DIED

 

Tuesday last, at Castletown in the Isle of Mann, his Excellency John WOOD, Esq. Governor of that Island. He was appointed to that honourable Office by his Grace the Duke of Athol, and, when the Island became an Appendage to the Crown, was confirmed in it by his Majesty. The Inhabitants of the Isle of Mann, with whom he has so long resided, can best speak his Worth. He died in the 56th Year of his Age.

[According to Manx National Heritage, John WOOD was buried on 04 May 1777 at Malew.]

 

Last Week, at Kirkland near Wigton, greatly regretted, Mr. John HEWETSON, a Gentleman eminent in Agriculture, a tender Husband, and a sincere Friend.

 

Suddenly at Carlisle, Mrs. Mary LITTLE, aged 77.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Mary LITTLE of Carlisle, widow, aged 78, was buried on 27 Apr 1777 at Stanwix.]

 

Same place in the bloom of life, Mrs. WALES, wife of Mr. WALES, grocer.

[According to FamilySearch, Margaret WALES, aged 24, spouse of John WALES, was buried on 21 Apr 1777 at Carlisle.]
