CUMBERLAND, TO WIT.
A Calendar of the Prisoners in the Gaol and House of Correction, Carlisle, at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace, to be holden at Carlisle aforesaid, on Tuesday, July 12, 1825.
1. William SMITH, aged 24, committed April 27th, 1825, by William HEBSON, Esq., charged with having feloniously stolen from the person of Joseph THOMPSON, at Penrith, a pocket-book, containing one Whitehaven note, of the value of five guineas, and one other note of the value of one guinea, the property of the said Joseph THOMPSON. 2. William EALAND, aged 23, committed April 27th, 1825, by William HEBSON, Esq. charged with having feloniously stolen, in the dwelling-house of William SALTS, of Penrith, innkeeper, a cotton shawl, of the value of five shillings, the property of the wife of the said William SALTS. The said William EALAND stands further committed on a charge of bastardy.
3. William GRAHAM, aged 33, committed April 28th, 1825, by the Rev. Richard MATTHEWS, charged with having feloniously stolen and carried away a drake and a hen, the property of William HODGSON, of Wigton.
4. Thomas TINDAL, aged 17, committed May 26th, 1825, by the Rev. Richard MATTHEWS, charged with having feloniously stolen and carried away from the dwelling-house of John MANN, of Sandenhouse, in the parish of Holm Cultram, nine bank notes, one knife, and four handkerchiefs, the property of the said MANN.
5. Susanna MILLS, aged 39, committed June 6th, 1825, by the Rev. James LYNN, charged with having uttered one piece of false money, of the likeness and similitude of a shilling, well knowing the same to have been false and counterfeit.
6. Jane TAYLOR, aged 17, committed June 24th, 1825, by Thomas BLAMIRE, Esq. charged with having feloniously stolen from the dwelling-house of George RELPH, of Stanwix, one gold brooch, his property.
7. Richard CARRUTHERS, aged 38, committed June 25th, 1825, for refusing to find sureties to keep the peace towards all, &c. and especially towards his wife.
8. William ATKINSON, aged 50, committed June 28th, 1825, by William HEBSON, Esq. for refusing to find sureties to keep the peace towards all, &c. and especially towards Richard FALLOWFIELD, of Penrith.
9. John BARRAS, aged 24, committed July 1st, 1825, by John HEYSHAM, Esq. for refusing to find sureties to keep the peace towards all, &c. and especially towards Mary, his wife.
10. William BELL, aged 51, committed July 1st, 1825, by Thomas BLAMIRE, Esq. charged with having feloniously stolen and carried away, from out of the stable of Mr. NORMAN, of Kirkandrews, one carter's whip, of the value of one shilling.
In custody on their several former orders.
James PERCIVAL, convicted at the Summer Assizes, 1821, and ordered to be transported for 7 years.
William HASTY, convicted at the Michaelmas Sessions, 1822, and ordered to be transported for 7 years.
Ann IRVING, convicted at the Epiphany Sessions, 1824, and ordered to be transported for 7 years.
William CRAMPTON, Isaac MASON, John MOOR, Richard ROUTLEDGE, Sarah GRAHAM, severally convicted at the Summer Assizes, 1824, and ordered and adjudged to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for the respective terms following—that is to say, William CRAMPTON and Isaac MASON for three years, John MOOR for two years, and Richard ROUTLEDGE and Sarah GRAHAM for one year.
William M'ALLISTER, Nicholas LENNAGAN, Hayton FISHER, severally convicted at the Michaelmas Sessions, 1824, and ordered and adjudged to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for the respective terms following, that is to say, William M'ALLISTER and Nicholas LENNAGAN for one year, and to find sureties themselves in £20 each, and two sureties in £10 each, for their good behaviour for two years more; and Hayton FISHER to be imprisoned twelve months.
Margaret CROZIER, committed October 29th, 1824, by William Ponsonby JOHNSON, Esq. and the Rev. Thomas RAMSHAY, convicted of having been delivered of a female bastard child, (being her sixth) which is yet living and chargeable to the parish of Arthuret, to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for one year.
William GUARDHOUSE, Anne COWPER, convicted at the Epiphany Sessions, 1825, and adjudged to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for twelve months.
Andrew NIXON, committed January 21st, 1825, by J. C. SATTERTHWAITE and Humphrey SENHOUSE, Esqrs. for non-payment of £19 18s. for part of a penalty due for an offence against the excise laws. The said Andrew NIXON is also further detained for non-payment of £20 for a penalty for an offence against the excise laws.
William RENNIE, convicted of burglary at the Lent Assizes, 1825, when judgment of death was entered on record against him.
John NICHOLSON, convicted of sheep-stealing at the Lent Assizes, 1825, when judgment of death was entered on record against him.
Sarah ALLEN, convicted of grand larceny at the Lent Assizes, 1825, and ordered to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for six calendar months.
Nathaniel PEARCE, convicted of grand larceny at the Lent Assizes, 1825, and ordered to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for one year.
