At Gretna Green, on the 24th ult., Mr. James COWEN, joiner and carpenter, to Miss Margaret CARNES, both of Penrith.

 

At Ambleside, Henry Thomas LUTWIDGE, Esq., R. N., of Whitehaven, to Mary, youngest daughter of John TAYLOR, Esq. of the Cottage, Ambleside. The bride was given away by Professor WILSON.

 

On Saturday, at Whitehaven, Mr. Ed. BROWNE, to Miss J. LEWTHWAITE. On Sunday, Mr. John WESTRAY, mercer and draper, to Miss A. FEARON, daughter of the late Mr. FEARON, boot-and-shoemaker.

 

At Egremont, Mr. Grayson SELKIRK, stone-mason, to Miss Sarah COMBE.

 

At Workington, Mr. Joseph HETHERINGTON, to Miss Barbara THOMPSON.

 

June 24, at the New Church of St. Pancras, by the Venerable Archdeacon POTS, W. C. MACREADY, Esq., to Miss C. M. ATKINS.

On Monday the 28th ult., at St. George's church [Hanover Square, London], by the Rt. Hon. and Rev. Lord Brandon, Samuel WHITBREAD, Esq. M. P., to Julia, daughter of Major-Gen. the Hon. Henry BRAND.

 

By special licence, in London, by the Hon. and Rev. H. WELLESLEY, at Orby HUNTER's, Esq., in Grosvenor-place, Captain G. WOMBWELL, to Miss Orby HUNTER. The Duke of York gave the bride away.

After all these years, my maternal Gt. Gt. Gt. Grandparents. That is the first reference to any of my ancestors in all your transactions that I have read.

Well, better late than never, Roland!

 

Your ancestors must have been very elusive. I have had many mentions of my husband’s folk in the articles I transcribed routinely (and lots more by actually searching for them).

 

Then again, none of my ancestors have shown up. Which, perhaps, is not all that surprising, as they were German… Although on one occasion, there was a report in The Times about the Great Fire of Hamburg, and my grandfather’s cousin was quoted – he was the senior pastor of St. Michael’s church in Hamburg, and his sermon was mentioned.

Congratulations Roland!! My English Reveleys are not at all newsworthy.

Now if you go thru the American newspapers for Reveleys, you will find murderers and thieves but don’t tell anybody.
