==============================================

We observe by the Almanack, that there will be a grand eclipse of the sun on
the 7th September, 1820.  About nine minutes after three, 11-12th of the
sun's diameter will be covered by the moon.  The moon will rise eclipsed on
the 29th March, about half-past six in the evening, and the phenomenon will
continue till a few minutes before eight.  She will also be visibly eclipsed
on the 22d September, a few minutes before five in the morning, and will set
in that state about an hour after.

Skaiting has seldom been exhibited in greater perfection than at Wisbeach,
on the 10th inst. when eight of the most celebrated runners in England met
to contest the prize of superiority.  The course, which is half a mile out
and back again, and run twice over, making two miles in the whole, had been
measured out and prepared, below the town;  the former mile was, for the
most part, performed in three minutes;  the latter in three minutes and ten
seconds.  The elevated mounds, which confine the river on either side, gave
all the advantages of an ancient Theatre to the immense concourse of
spectators from every part of the country.

A dreadful accident happened on Sunday week, at Knottingley, in Yorkshire,
in consequence of the breaking of the ice, by which 45 persons were
precipitated into the water, and 35 sunk to rise no more !!!
